David M. Colgan

David Mejia Colgan, Esq. has over 25 years of experience in criminal law. After graduation from New York University School of Law in 1998, Mr. Colgan served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, where he served in the domestic violence and sex crimes bureaus and handled felony trials, including homicides, and misdemeanor trials.   Mr. Colgan served as the second chair on 5 homicide trials as an intern in the Kinge County District Attorney's Office prior to joining the Bronx County District Attorney's Office.

Since leaving the District Attorney’s office in 2005, Mr. Colgan has represented hundreds of clients in federal and state criminal cases, as well as post-conviction proceedings. Mr. Colgan has appeared in Courts throughout New York State, including local, town, city and county Courts throughout New York City, Westchester County, Rockland County, Orange County, Putnam County, Nassau County and Suffolk County.

Mr. Colgan is admitted to practice in the Federal Courts in the Southern District of New York, the Eastern District of New York, the Northern District of New York and the Western District of New York. Mr. Colgan has represented criminal defendants in matters in Federal Courts throughout the United States.

Since leaving the District Attorney's Office, Mr. Colgan has also practiced Family Law in the Family Courts throughout the City and State, Matrimonial Law and Immigration Law in the limited areas of applications for citizenship and deportation defense. He has appeared before the United States Immigration Courts in New York City, throughout New York State and in various other jurisdictions in the United States.

Mr. Colgan is fluent in Spanish.
