I was previously outside counsel to many banks and lenders and have also been counsel to borrowers who own residential and commercial property. I have deep experience on both sides of foreclosure cases for nearly 3 decades. I have helped many homeowners save their property with foreclosure defense in court and mortgage loan modifications/negotiated settlements. I was previously appointed to be a receiver of a commercial property on Long Island.

Experienced Advice and steadfast guidance

I first contacted Scott for a consultation and several minutes into our conversation, I knew that he was the right attorney for me. Besides being very knowledgeable, he has a reassuring bedside manner. He is honest and has an unbiased direct approach to the situation, followed by how he can help and ...the best way to approach the issue. I never felt pushed into making any decisions and my questions and concerns were always met with understanding and concern. Scott is very approachable and was always very responsive and available to speak with me - both before I hired him and after. This was extremely valuable to me. Scott was instrumental in helping me reach a successful outcome.

An attorney you can trust

Scott gave just the right advise and is obviously a veteran in the field of debt settlements and bankruptcy matters. Scott's opinions were always given w clear, practical options and consequences in support of my best interests and, as importantly as solid knowledge in his field, I observed over time... that his advise was given with my best interests in mind, rather than toward actions resulting in higher attorneys fees. I now consider Scott to be an important and trusted ally that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Scott to a friend or family member.

Professional, Aggressive, and Experienced in Court

Scott helped me resolve a dispute last year. I own and operate a hair salon in NJ but I was sued in a NY Court by the company that handled my credit card processing. That company committed fraud and was being investigated by the Attorney General. My business has no connection to NY. Scott researched... and drafted a motion to dismiss the case and argued it in court. The judge agreed with our motion a nd forced the company to settle. I was very happy with the result.

Thanks so much for the review! This case involved challenging issues of contract law, fraud, and jurisdiction. I was very happy with this result also. Being ready and able to battle in court is what it takes to negotiate the best settlement. Scott

Scott Gets Results

My Condominium Board hired Scott Lanin after an owner in our building had their lawyer threaten to sue the Condo. We got on the phone with Scott and immediately felt like we were in good hands. He knew exactly how to handle the situation and helped us avoid a lawsuit. Since the owner clearly had no l...egal recourse to go after us, they ended up selling and leaving the building. Scott is a great attorney, very experienced, and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him.

I'm so glad this worked out. I always try to help my clients avoid the time and expense of litigation. It's not always the best option to fight in court but it helps when the other side knows you can.

Smart, efficient, professional, and tough (where you need him to be!)

Scott Lanin was recommended by a friend whom I trust (through a shared professional organization; the other gentleman is not a lawyer). He was amazing. Based on my voicemail and email, he contacted me over a weekend, continued to write to me and receive documents, and called me on Sunday, even thou...gh he had family obligations which he was juggling. He was reassuring and smart, honest and efficient. I have no doubt that he worked for every penny he billed for, and I am happy to pay him for his help which ended up avoiding costly litigation and settling the dispute in my favor. I always felt that I was in trustworthy and competent hands. He's smart, takes his time, and get results. What more could any client ask for? He even reminded me that my constant emailing him in my anxiety was raising his fee! Totally honest person. His firm was a pleasure to do business with, including his staff and his paralegal.

"I highly recommend Scott Lanin for foreclosure and bankruptcy law. I have known him for nearly 25 years back to the days when we both worked together at a law firm that handled bankruptcy and commercial litigation. One of the partners was a Chapter 13 bankruptcy trustee in the Eastern District of New York. We have also worked together or consulted with each other over the years. We have also seen each other at the Bankruptcy Courts in Brooklyn and Central Islip. Scott is very knowledgeable in foreclosure and bankruptcy law and has handled many cases. He is extremely professional and has integrity. Clients can feel confident that he will handle their case professionally and efficiently. Excellent attorney with a lot of experience. I highly endorse this attorney."

"I wholeheartedly endorse Scott. Over the years, I have referred several clients to Scott who have found themselves in dire financial straits. Scott has consistently helped these people rebuild their lives by combining his years of experience with an unmatched determination and dedication rarely seen in his area of practice. He is willing to take the time necessary to truly understand his clients' problems and exhaustively explore every possible avenue of recourse available to them, rather than simply recommend a course of action he is most comfortable with as so many attorneys in this area of the law are prone to do. Finally, the clients I have sent Scott have consistently reported to me that his accessibility truly made them feel assured that they were both important to him and an integral part of the process."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
