Biography
I feel as though clients should be fully educated on the decisions that they are making, and that the work they ask for be completed.
There are many aspects of trusts and estate planning that falls outside of the actual documents drafted for clients: Deed changes, updating beneficiary designation forms for life insurance and retirement plans, identifying the nature of assets in a person's accounts. My past profession as a Certified Financial Planner (R) allows me to ensure these matters are addressed properly with the client.
Post mortem issues are even more complicated: Tax elections, settlement options, and smoothing over possible disputes are too often neglected by the administering attorney. And pricing for these services can be userous for the unwary. I do charge a fee for these services, though they are reasonable and accountable.
My clients just like me. I cannot say why, aside from the fact I tend to be cautious, provide full disclosure, and treat them like my human equals.
