Efficient and professional

I hired Ms. Dodson for a dispute with a former employer. She and her associates were clear and straightforward with me throughout the discussions and eventual settlement. They got me the money I was owed with a minimal investment of time and effort. I will recommend Penn Dodson's firm to my friend...s and colleagues, and I intend to contact them first if I ever have the misfortune of dealing with a shady employer again.

Strung me along and passed me off

So for the last year as of today. I had been in touch with her team to get unpaid wages owed to me by a former employer. having her state "you have kept the most impeccable records for a ******** i have ever seen , this should be prettty easy." Well i would go months without hearing from them having ...to constantly call and set up appointments eventually she woudnt even have them set up appointments like we would and a "paralegal" (im assuming) would contact me with updates and what not asking for documents and to upload them to secure sites....sign documents electronically. yet out of nowhere in June/July of last year she optioned to give me to anotehr attorney at the firm named Joseph Galera. Who lives in Colorado and im in New York....The next 8 months were playing phone tag with him eventually coming to find out my former emplyoer had offered a seltement amount previously but they decided to let things dissolve. I found this out via former employees i worked with that they were told the discussions were tabled NOT EVEN by my own attorney. Well at this point im now alll of a sudden getting weekly cometimes bi-weekly calls or emails(i even suggested zoom calls). Trying to get the case up to date. They asked me to find evidence of the meployer lying to which i did, then in dec/jan i ask to be included in on any clals with the former employers attorneys or whomever was representing them...no response. I ask for the person name even a phone number....no response....then I get an email stating "were close to reaching a settlement" with a document and everything....now at this point my internet security had be compromised and i made them aware of this..Specifically in the letter (they also mailed me a copy)it told me to NOT speak to anyone about the issue coming to a settlement and to stay off the interenet completely and not bank on the money for any funds needed to get by or what have you...they know full well my situation and that thats exactly hwat i have ben waiting on....the settlement they estimated to be upwards of $50,000 last quoted at $5,000.......i did not sign anythign acccepting that low ammount only accepting them attempting to get the 50k....now that was in february i last heard from them....until Friday evening april 26th two days before exactly 1 yr that i hire them for their services. yes HIRED and was told they would easily be able to bring this to court if necessary....now being told they would not be persuing this anymore they dont feel they could win blah blah blah and then sent me a bunch of links to NYS Dept of lab that i alreay had or have and they should knwo FULL well that the department of labro cannot assist me becuase i hired an attorney for wages. Sorry someone who is allagedly a lawyer in NYS should know that especially if they take up to 90% of their case to be employment related, just no reason otehr than going back on their word and decided F*** you dude. mind you that there is a deadline i now have to find another lawyer and its getting close because you only have x amount of time ot get claims and someof my claims go back to that deadline aAND NOW BEYOND.

Duh...

I hired this attorney to draft a letter of appeal to the City University of New York (CUNY) because I have been unfairly denied a place on a CUNY civil service list for which I qualify. This attorney and I discussed at that time that CUNY has a 2-step appeal process. I paid her $450 to do a rough fir...st draft of a short letter. When the first step of the appeal process did not succeed, this attorney stopped responding to my communication and then told me she was no longer available. I bit my tongue and moved on. But what really made me post this negative feedback after all is that she couldn't leave well enough alone but instead just now sent me a letter telling me how honored she was to represent me and that she considers this case closed (when I am still waiting for word on the second step of the appeal -- which I had to write on my own). And she didn't even get the party (CUNY) right in her letter, instead listing one of CUNY's components as the party simply because I had once worked at that part of CUNY.

"I endorse this lawyer. She's a strong advocate. She enjoys wage and hour litigation and has helped people in need in New York City with wage claims. Her spouse is also an accomplished lawyer. People who truly care about and are committed to their work. We both have experience in other states which I think gives us a different perspective. Yes New York City has plenty of diversity but until a lawyer has lived as well as practiced outside New York it's tough to appreciate how fortunate we all are to be living and practicing law metro New York City. I have no reservations about recommending Penn."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
