Biography

I practice family law so I can support people through some of the most challenging transitions of their lives. I can help you with legal representation in all aspects of family law, including divorce, child and spousal support, child custody, interstate custody and relocation disputes, as well as domestic violence matters. As the Managing Partner of the Family Law Practice at Callagy Law, I work with a team of passionate negotiators and experienced litigators who advocate tirelessly for our clients. Whatever issue you are facing, you deserve my experienced team by your side.

After fifteen years in the banking and insurance industries, I entered the family law field knowing I could make a significant contribution to individuals and their families with my unique combination of financial, legal, and negotiation skills. I am proud of what my team and I have been able to achieve, becoming one of the most compassionate and innovative family law practices in New Jersey.

Because of my extensive corporate audit background, I am the best option for clients with high-net-worth cases involving significant assets, as well as cases concerning owners of closely held businesses. I have had the pleasure of developing customized strategies for corporate executives, professional athletes, television personalities, and other high-profile celebrities.

More about me:
I graduated cum laude from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and was awarded my undergraduate degree cum laude from Caldwell University.
As much as possible, I give back to my professional and personal communities. I have lectured on a variety of legal issues including, custody, child support, and relocation law to fellow attorneys on behalf of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Institution for Continuing Legal Education. In October 2018, I was appointed by the Governor to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors for University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. University hospital is a level one trauma center and the state's only public acute care hospital.
My community involvement also includes volunteering as a Panelist for the Superior Court, Essex County, Early Settlement Panel and serving as a member of the Family Law Executive Committee for the New Jersey State Bar Association where I Co-Chair the DEI Committee. In addition to these committees, I am very proud to serve as a Fellow of the American Bar Association and be part of a global honorary society of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession and to the welfare of their communities. Membership in the Fellows is limited to one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction, so I am among an inspiring group of leaders in my field.

In 2021 the Essex County Bar Association named me “Family Practitioner of the Year.” I also joined the Board of the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey, a non-profit organization focused on building synergies between New Jersey’s independent universities and advocating on behalf of students. I am very proud to be on the Advisory Board for my alma mater, Caldwell University.

You Will Not Find a More Capable and Caring Attorney

Tanya Freeman is by far an excellent matrimonial attorney. She came to my rescue and put my mind at ease. She is empathetic, knowledgeable, professional and a great communicator. She enabled me to feel completely at peace in a very difficult situation. Saved the Day

I Filed for divorce from my now ex wife in April of 2016. Mrs Freeman was recommended to me by a friend. I had every intention of consulting with her but for whatever reason that didn't happen and I hired another lawyer. That lawyer was nice but in way over his head and no match for my lying vindi...ctive bully of a wife. To make a Long story short and after the aggressiveness from my ex wive's lawyer (whom I can't blame) and the unfair mediation process. I was told that the best deal I would get was a minimum of 4 years of alimony and share my pension with my ex. This was devestating news but I refused to sign anything. but I eventually gave in and the Friday before i was to finalize I decided to consult with Mrs freeman. I just gave her minimal info and after a 10 minute convo I was surprised but skeptical of what I had heard. She decided to take on my case and I'm glad she did. I'm divorced a year later and I kept all my pension and absolutely no alimony for the ex. I was able to walk away from the marriage only paying child support. I owe it all to Mrs freeman and her staff. Thank you guys!!!!

Cream Of the Crop

Mrs. Freeman guided me through difficult times like well experience pro. Whenever I had any qualms or fears she would calm them and present solutions to any problems. She is simply a fantastic lawyer!

Superstar attorney!!!!!!!

Tanya was more than I could have imagined or hoped for in court. To say she cleaned house would be an understatement, My whole life changed when she took on my custody case. Everything changed before the judge when she pled my case, I was representing myself before because I thought that I didn't nee...d a lawyer. My ex boyfriend had a lawyer and I thought that I was going to lose my daughter. I borrowed money from my mother and hired Tanya and she became my savior in every way. I don't know what would have happened if I tried to continue to represent myself. As you can can probably guess, I kept custody of my daughter thanks to Tanya.
