I was arrested for domestic assault and battery against a family member. I pushed my wife at a bar. I’m an alcoholic and had been drinking. I struggle with mental health issues, bipolar, PTSD specifically. I had never done anything like that before and found myself in jail that night. My wife did not... want to press charges and bailed me out the next day. It was a Sunday and my arraignment was scheduled for Monday. We were at a loss of what to do, thinking that it would be hard to find a lawyer on such short notice and on a Sunday. We researched lawyers online and found Joe. He had good reviews so we thought we would give him a call. He answered immediately and helped calm our anxieties. He listened to the whole story, asking for more details and getting to know myself and my wife. My wife and I were just out of school and did not know how to pay Joe. He was very understanding and allowed us to be on a payment plan. It was a very reasonable plan giving us 6 months to pay him. We were allowed to pay him when we were able to. He did not fix us at a monthly rate. We really appreciated him doing that. Not many people would have been so understanding. My case consisted of an arraignment, pretrial and plea trial. He called us before each court session to go over our plan and to calm our anxieties. He answered our calls / emails immediately whenever we reached out to him. It was very easy to get in touch with him. If he does not answer he will call you back the same day. He worked diligently with the prosecution and was able to get them to agree to a continuance without a finding, with the case dismissed after only 6 months of probation. The only thing I have to do is continue with therapy, which I would have done anyway. I do not have to take domestic violence classes or pay a large fine. The fine I do have to pay is only $300 paid over the course of my probation / $50 a month. Simons is a great attorney, and he kept us calm throughout the whole process, was there for us whenever we needed, was polite. We really felt like we had someone on our team who would defend us. He took a lot off our minds, as we felt in good hands. One thing that was great about him is that he was able to work out for us to go to court via phone. The case was in MA but my wife and I moved to AL. Joe was able to convince the prosecution to let us go to court remotely. He also made it so I can have my probation down in AL. There was some negotiating to do / ins and outs of transferring the probation and he did it all. I would recommend this lawyer to anyone. He knows how to work with people and thereby works easily with prosecutors. I think this is due to his good nature. He is not brash and knows how to clearly communicate with kindness. He is very level-headed and reasonable. I think his personality played in our favor, as he works well with others. Hopefully I never find myself in court again, but if I do, I’m going to call Simons again. Couldn’t recommend him enough!
