Review

Hired the Steele Group to represent me in a child custody case. To make a long story short, all of his associates and his staff left in mass exodus. This guy went off the deep end and when I found out certain papers hadn't been filed with the Court, he made excuses, sent ranting emails, voicemails ...and text messages using profanity, etc. Papers that weren't filed ended up affecting my case and he felt no remorse for that. He didn't have any problem taking my retainer which wasn't earned. He lied constantly telling me he had filed paperwork with the Courts (which is easy enough to prove or disprove) and would still lie to me telling me he had worked on my case. I am glad he was finally disciplined after multiple clients reported him to the State. I don't know what happened to this guy but I am so sorry I hired his firm thinking he would an outstanding attorney only to find out that wasn't true. What's even harder to figure out is there are some reviews here that make this guy sound like God. After first reading the reviews here on AVVO, that is why I hired his firm. Obviously if he now has a rating of 1.0, it proves my story that I wasted time and money trusting this guys to help me when all that happened was my money was kept and he actually hurt my case.

Unhappy client

David worked for a family member in a custody case for two years. In the two years he never showed up for one meeting in fact we never met him. After two years we are at the same place we started. fortunately for us CPS became involved due to bad decisions on the moms part and they did more for us ...than David did,

Child Support

Atty Steele's vast knowledge of family law is second nature. His advice is not sugar coated, but laced with genuine concern for the child's best interest. Thank you for so much for the consultation. If my case was closer, I'd have hired him in a heartbeat! Class act!

HORRIBLE. DO NOT USE!

I had a very simple divorce-literally just wanted someone to process the paperwork. David was completely inappropriate and charged me a fee and said even if it went to court he wouldn't charge me another dime. I ended up having to pay an extra $200 for what reason, no one knows. Then, he processed pa...perwork ahead of time (which I suggested not to do) and he did it. I had to drive an extra hour to go and sign it again when the court didn't accept it. He resubmitted it but was too lazy to go downtown and mailed it in, making it take an extra week almost. Then his paralegal (who's not an associate attorney) sent me paperwork and everytime she sent it to me sign and bring to the office she mispelled my name (and it's not that difficult name). Once everything was finally done she assured me I didn't need a physical copy to get a new social security card and just scanned a copy into me. I of course, did need a certified copy (which they don't get...not that I knew that). I then called and left a voicemail, she returned my call at work so I called her back and never heard back. I emailed both David and Jennifer last week and Jennifer sent me a very rude email back attempting to answer my question. David then proceeded to send her the email I sent him almost a week later, so Jennifer called and left me the RUDEST voicemail I've ever heard. Everything was completely out of line and completely unprofessional. This attorney is completely unethical and nonresponsive and I highly recommend NOT using him.

As any divorce lawyer will tell you - you do this long enough, you will get some crazy clients there is simply no pleasing. This is a woman who believes my associate attorney is actually a paralegal pretending to be a lawyer but she knows the truth about her, only "lazy" lawyers use the U.S. Postal System and real lawyers hand deliver the 50 documents they send out a day to 50 different people, and that getting a bill from an attorney for a whopping $200 is inappropriate, so, you can judge her intelligence or sanity for yourself. The other 24 people who took the time to give me rave reviews, of which I am incredibly proud, must be insane. Best of luck to you! You are absolutely going to need it.

Steele not worth a penny

Steele was tardy on replies when I called/emailed his offices (over a week delay). He also managed to have me pay almost double what I should be paying for child support by not correctly filing income that belongs to my child. He sent emails to me at 2 AM with an aggressive nature. I would strongl...y suggest you think twice prior to even contacting his office as this was a horrific experience for my family.

I find it interesting that it has been such a horrific experience for your family since it was your family who referred you to me. Your entire family. Your brother was a great client who loved working with me enough that he sent you to me and your parents loved what I did for him as they were there in the courtroom with us when I did it and they sent you to me. 44 people have taken the time to write very kind reviews of me on this site because they appreciated what I did for them and the way we worked together. You are the exception so what does that tell you your brother's expectation? You do not understand how divorce works; there's simply nothing I can do about clients who don't get it. And when you write me 11 emails a day, every day, telling me how divorce law works since you are the expert, I'm bound to take some time answering some of them, and probably start getting aggressive with you. I apologize sincerely. By the way - that's why people hire me. You want a pushover who will let idiots yell at him when they're wrong, you should have hired someone else.

"Mr. Steele and I do not practice in ANY of the same areas of law. We somehow crossed paths on a particular Avvo question and have communicated a couple of times, since. What I have noticed in my interactions with David is he is not your typical lawyer. That is a good thing, because people often despise "typical lawyers." If you review David's profile, his philosophy and his client reviews, you get a sense that not only is David not typical, but he is exceptional, in who he is and what he does. The kind of work that he does is difficult. He is often meeting with people who are at their very worst. You can tell from the reviews that David not only helps them through that, but that he also gives them a whole new outlook on lawyers and the law. How many lawyers can you say that about? For these reasons and because I really admire the man's philosophy and his bio, I am very happy to endorse David and his services. James Frederick"
