Gerry Elman and his team of attorneys were a great resource for the Esri Mid-Atlantic Users Group, when I was president of the organization. Gerry is simply outstanding! He was the IP counsel for a biotech company I started and took public. A large part of our valuation came from the incredible IP Gerry was responsible for. His guidance, expertise, and shepherding through the US and PCT patent processes gave our company incredible advantages. Examples of this are almost too numerous to cover here but some include: his freedom to operate and infringement opinions uncovered something that Fish & Richardson had missed that was critical to our company - and he accomplished this in less time and for a lower cost. His ability to navigate mine fields, steer us clear, and find a new alternative when seeking protection meant that eventually we secured claims which basically allowed us to the the ONLY company that could develop prodcuts and practice in an area that the industry felt was "locked up" by a broad patent suported by a $6 billion company. Gerry, is not only extremely bright but patient, listens well, provides great examples and works with the most naive technical professional in a way that they feel great about learning and doing the work to get the materials to him that are needed to provide terrific specifications and incredible claims. I have recommended Gerry to others and he has done a similarly great job for those individuals or companies.
