Self Employed Tax Payer Audited

Case Conclusion Date: 12.01.2012

Practice Area: Tax

Outcome: Reduction in tax liability of $12,000

Description: A self-employed taxpayer who ran a recruiting/consulting business was audited for two tax years by the IRS. I assisted him in preparing materials after he was issued a Notice of Deficiency. As a small case before the U.S. Tax Court the matter was referred to the appeals office for informal settlement. I represented the taxpayer during the meeting with the IRS representative presenting our substantiation for many of his Schedule C deductions. The taxpayer's tax bill was reduced from $24,000 to $12,000.
