Ellen Anderson Morgan

Ellen A. Morgan was born and raised in Stratford, Connecticut. Educated in the Stratford public school system, she attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. before graduating from Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1986. She graduated Tulane Law School, New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1989. Her first job after law school was with Mid-Minnesota Legal Services, Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota in the elder law unit. There, she represented senior citizens in Medicaid and Social Security hearings, housing disputes and provided legal assistance to senior centers.

In 1992, Ellen returned to Connecticut and opened her own practice. She served as the first woman and first black Assistant Town Attorney in Stratford, working with the Finance & Claims, Parks & Recreation and Public Works committees, in addition to litigation and advisory services to the Town of Stratford, Police Department and Emergency Medical Services Departments.

She received mediation training from The Center for Mediation in Law at Columbia University, The Dispute Settlement Center, Inc. in Norwalk and from the State of Connecticut in the Child Protection Session of the state’s juvenile court system. She was a volunteer mediator for the Dispute Settlement Center, Inc. providing dispute resolution to the community and a volunteer attorney to the Law Works for People Pro Bono project of the Connecticut Bar Association. She has served as a judge in the American Bar Association’s Northeast Intramural Alternative Dispute Resolution Competitions held at Quinnipiac University, as well as serving as judge for that University’s annual competitions.

Ellen is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, including its solo and small firm and family law committees, and is an executive committee member of the child welfare law section. She is a member of the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association and co-chair of its juvenile law committee, and the National Association of Counsel for Children. She served for many years as a Board member of the Child and Family Guidance Center (formerly Child Guidance) assisting the leadership of agency in its provision of mental health and parenting services to the community.

Currently, her practice, the Law Offices of Ellen A. Morgan, LLC, includes family law, elder law, juvenile law, the probate areas of guardianships and conservatorships, Social Security disability and private dispute resolution.
