Biography

Greg Lighty grew up in Yakima, WA and returned home to practice law. He is a co-owner of Kapuza Lighty, PLLC – Accident Injury Lawyers. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Washington in 1988 before graduating from the University of Washington School of Law in 1991. Greg has practiced law in Yakima since 1991.

Greg worked for Halverson Applegate (now Halverson Northwest) from 1991 – 2006. His practice was focused on civil litigation and he served as the firm’s Managing Partner from 2003 – 2006. After leaving the Halverson firm, Greg dedicated his practice to helping people who are injured through the fault of others. Greg, and his partner John Kapuza, focus exclusively on representing injured people in their joint practice at Kapuza Lighty.

Greg has recognized nationally by Martindale-Hubbell with its top rating of “AV Preeminent” for outstanding legal ability and ethics since 2014. He is rated “Superb” by AVVO, an independent online lawyer rating service, and has been named a “Super Lawyer” by Washington Law & Politics magazine every year since 2020. As a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, Greg has made significant recoveries for many clients who suffered injuries caused by car or truck accidents, slip-and-falls, and dog bites.

Greg’s practice typically involves injuries resulting from car or truck accidents, slip-and-falls, or dog bites, and he has made significant recoveries for many of his clients. Greg has also represented hundreds of clients who suffered damages as a result of wildland fires. His work on those cases has produced recoveries for his clients totaling more than $20 Million.

Greg is married to Catherine Lighty, who recently retired from practicing family law in Yakima. Greg and Catherine have two adult children. Greg has nearly 20 years of experience as a youth sports coach, including basketball, soccer, football, baseball, and golf.

Greg and Catherine are also very involved in the Yakima Community. Greg served as the Chairman of the City of Yakima Civil Service Commissions for nearly 20 years. He has served on the Board for the United Way of Central Washington and the First Tee of Yakima.

Wonderful!

Mr. Lighty and his assistant, LeAnne, were incredibly helpful on my automobile accident case. Extraordinary work

Greg has been my attorney for two motor vehicle accident cases, and he has been nothing but professional, knowledgeable, and just awesome. So glad I hired Greg Lighty to handle my car accident claim

Greg Lighty did an excellent job of negotiating my motor vehicle accident case. His staff always kept me in the loop as to what was going on with my case.
