Tough when it counts

I was referred to Virginia after being terminated from a position of over 5 years with no notice. Friends had told me that Virginia had experience with this same employer in a different case, and there was a positive outcome. This job meant the world to me. I was a dedicated employee with national... awards to back up my performance. However, I was experiencing sexist remarks for almost the entire duration of my tenure there. After a particularly loud and hostile confrontation, I finally told my supervisor that I was going to go against the advice of HR and final a formal grievance. I was fired 4 days later. When I first met with Virginia I was a total wreck. I sobbed almost our entire meeting, and I wasn’t even sure myself of what I was looking for out of our initial meeting. She listened patiently, and at the end of my story she gave me a very honest account of what it would look like to pursue a lawsuit. She didn’t paint a rosy version of events, and she didn’t even commit to taking on the case. Instead, she told me what I would need to do to prepare, and gave me a choice. Throughout the case I felt confident that I was in good hands. Virginia was always open to questions, trustworthy, and diligent in her preparation of evidence. I truly believe that her reputation of ironclad groundwork played an emotional role in the final decision of my past employer. Virginia understood my needs from this endeavor where greater than the financial outcome. We have many healing (albeit concise) conversations about how these types of cases influence organizational behavior. In the end, I felt like I got to experience justice thanks to Virginia. I would recommend her to anyone.

Amazing Person!

Virginia was nothing short of amazing! I needed some legal help with a previous employer, and she went above and beyond. I called her and left a message, and she took the time to call me back on her day off and consult me. I was a bit nervous, because it was only 4 days before my hearing, but she was... VERY efficient! She got my paperwork, put it in order, informed me of everything I would need and what to say, in order, for my hearing. She wasn't on for the hearing part for me, due to money being tight for me, but she did EVERYTHING she could to help me win and I did! If you're looking for someone who will be on your side AND go above and beyond because they genuinely care, then Virginia is the person. I could go on and on, but just call her and find out for yourself.

How can you NOT hire Virginia?

I was trying to handle negotiations with my employer on my own and things were quickly deteriorating. Turning my case over to Virginia was the best decision I could make and I am so glad I did. The precise, detailed, and fast way she resolved the situation was wonderful and took the stress off my... shoulders. Thank you!

Honest and real Lawyer

Virginia was extremely honest and real with me when I was deciding to take legal action against a past employer. Because of her truthful guidance I decided not to go any further and I appreciate her taking the time to educate me on my decision vs. just pushing me into a situation I wouldn't be able t...o back away from. This saved me much heartache. Thank you!

Find another lawyer...

I retained Ms. DeCosta in a personal injury case, and had the unpleasant task of releasing her and finding another lawyer. Her work was sloppy, her attitude aggressive and unprofessional, and she communicated poorly. Would NOT recommend her to anyone. Her work is slipshod at best.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
