About C.

Learn C.’s areas of practice.

For me, being an attorney means helping people find justice and resolution.  This motivating purpose is what has driven me to pursue a career of representing individuals and small business owners rather than large corporate interest.  To me, every case is personal and having a private practice allows me to provide every client with my personal attention.  Having practiced in Seattle since 1979, I am intimately familiar with Washington case law.  While it is always my hope that a case can be settled before trial, I know that this is not always possible.  I am an experienced litigator and comfortable in the court room.  If you are looking for experienced, competent, and personal representation, contact me for a free consultation to discuss your case.

Honest, direct and determined
In 2009, I went through a terrible divorce and my counselor at that time mentioned “the children are young enough you can leave now and they won’t remember you.” Had I met Nelson nd had him as my attorney from day one I am confident I would’ve been the sole custodian of the children. In 2009 related to the job market and economy I lost my employment had to short sell a house on top of a recently fresh divorce with children. In 2009 related to the job market and economy I lost my employment had to short sell a house on top of a recently fresh divorce with children, my x refused to pay her Proportionate share of household expenses and bills that she herself accrued on a joint credit card. The “hold harmless clause” was clearly violated. Nelson rectified this situation and had made sure that my ex could not get away with more financial damage. It is now 2019, my ex still thinks we are fighting a divorce, still refuses to properly cooperate with regards and respect to our now 11-year-old daughters. I trust Nelson, he’s easy to talk to and knows the letter of the law and most importantly he does not mince words. He will be my chosen attorney from here until he retires.

Highly Recommended
I retained Mr. Berry to assist with a simple Quit Claim deed my Ex had failed to complete. It suddenly turned into a more serious matter and I found myself having to defend my ownership rights and equity of the real property awarded to me by divirce decree. Mr. Berry immediately engaged with a level of professionalism and knowledge of the laws specific to my case that were key to why this ended in my favor. He was patient with me (and how!), he filed swift, consise pleadings and he was and is a force to be reckoned with. I am more than pleased and I highly recommend Mr. Berry's legal services.

Pivotal place
Mr. Berry is a complete professional, in every sense of the word. Compassionate, honest, prudent and versatile in matters of law. I am a single mom and very able, competent and successful. I am the founder of my own non-profit, although small in scale, that serve the needy with a determined and compassionate mission statement. I had a terrible last year with personal crisis and being harassed by Cps investigators twice. The first round I was completely oblivious to what their demands and ridiculous requirements were doing to the fiber of my family. I had no attorney at that time because I thought for sure I could not afford one. The second round I was empowered and immediately reserved my 5th amendment rights to not speak to anyone until I consulted an attorney. I was able to find Mr. Berry on a fluke chance that he did not want a huge retainer for his services. His services were extremely reasonable. I recommend him for anyone feeling lost, desperate, hopeless, or oppressed. He really helped me more than he will ever truly know.

Nelson Berry: A Strong Client Advocate, Focused and Results Oriented
Nelson Berry is a strong, dedicated, gifted attorney who relentlessly advocates for his clients. He took on a series of very challenging, post-divorce cases for me, and by utilizing thoughtful legal strategy, focused discovery and passionate court pleadings, he was able to achieve success that included, among other things, restoration of my regular visitation rights with my child.

Most Trusted Advisor
Nelson is always the first person I reach out to concerning any legal matter. He gave me the confidence I needed to pursue a highly sensitive employment-related issue and negotiated successfully on my behalf. He puts his clients first but always provides sound, sage advice. The best, most trustworthy and rational legal advocate I have come across.

The Very Best Attorney For Everything !!!!!
Nelson has been the most important and diligent attorney I have ever worked with. He was amazing my situation would not be touch by any and I mean any attorney in may area. After calling around to 4 other attorney's in Seattle with my situation even other attorney's suggested Nelson and they were correct. He had all the answers that I needed and his work was above and beyond. When I say there is nothing that Nelson can not conquer I am not stating that lightly. Through this drawn out over 2 year process he never gave into anything but his goal doing the very best job for me. Thank you again Nelson for everything.

Restore your sense of dignity
Whatever your battle, let your search for a lawyer stop here. In a time of turmoil and uncertainty, Nelson made the whole experience less grievous. I loved his calmness and composure. I'll never forget how he encouraged me at one point when I felt overwhelmed. I was always treated with respect and felt my case was handled with a high degree of professionalism. My settlement was more than I hoped for and I am very grateful for all his efforts on my behalf. His staff was totally accommodating and certainly earned a five star rating! THANK YOU

Divorce and Child Custody
Mr. Berry has been my attorney since September 2001. He fought for me in my divorce settlement which concerned two young children and many financial issues including a family home. I had no idea what I was doing or what steps needed to be taken and Mr. Berry and his staff provided me with the guidance all along the way and answered any and all concerns that I had immediately. My divorce was extremely complicated and although it was settled in December 2002, I have continuously had issues crop up with my ex-husband including sexual mis-conduct and child-support issues. Mr. Berry has fought for me and the welfare of my children successfully throughout this long process which is why he is still my attorney today. I have referred him to many friends and colleagues and will continue to do so. I highly recommend Mr. Berry and his team.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2013.

Reprimand issued in WA, 2013
updated on 06/30/2017

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

C.'s comment: “I represented a woman who throughout her dissolution believed her husband had been hiding assets. Shortly after final orders were entered, she provided me with evidence of an account which had not been disclosed at trial. I subpoenaed for information about the account and served opposing counsel. Opposing counsel threatened to bring a motion to quash which would have provided an appropriate forum to resolve this dispute. Instead, she filed a complaint with the WSBA.”

Reciprocal - Censure issued in CO, 1999
updated on 08/08/2017

This means that the attorney's misconduct in another state, or jurisdiction, also violated the rules for practicing law in Colorado.

C.'s comment: “This censure was reciprocal nature and was for the same incident that occurred in 1998 in Washington, detailed below. I would be happy to discuss either incident, shown above and below, further.”

C.'s comment: “I represented a Minority Business Enterprise which had been exploited by HSW Construction and the Seattle School District during the refurbishing of Franklin High School. Two weeks into trial, the judge summarily dismissed portions of our claims outside the presence of the jury. I was so upset, I told the judge her rulings were “a travesty of justice”. I left the courtroom and let my co-counsel take over for the rest of the day. A week later, the judge found me in contempt for my comment.”
