In a nutshell, I wish someone had given me Ed’s reference before I signed by divorce settlement. I did meet Ed on a particular follow-up issue around the maintenance amount I had agreed to pay my Ex, without her declaring to me some additional income sources during mediation. Ed gave me a quic...k breakdown of costs & maximum possible gains from litigation. Where he won me over was by being sympathetic but also being candid in basically advising me to save my money & not challenge a white Seattle single mom (my ex). Based on how late I had come to know of her extra income, and how no Seattle jury was going to ask her to return any maintenance money to me. Maybe a token something that would not cover a fraction of money spent in courts. His advice was a balance between merit of my case, and importantly the reality of how such decisions swing in Seattle courts. He could have easily said yes & drawn me into costly litigation.
