A steady, determined lawyer

Cynthia Buhr was a lighthouse in the storm of my divorce. She gave strong advice but always left it to me to make the decisions. She offered clear explanations and was always kind when I asked her to explain the process repeatedly. She was determined to help me get a settlement that was fair and equi...table. I could not have gone through the divorce process without her sensible and prudent advice. She has a huge amount of family law experience, and she was able to deal with my ex and his lawyers in a calm and judicious manner.

Fantastic. Simply fantastic.

Cynthia worked well on my case. She provided clear direction for my actions, as well as providing cost effective counsel. She was professional while helping clear up emotional responses to things that needed a fact based response. My case was complicated, and she helped me to understand what was ...normal and abnormal, while providing excellent strategic thinking.

Would not recommend

• Unorganized o We ended up using the opposing attorney’s documentation, which put me at a huge disadvantage, because they were more prepared. o I had to answer the same question multiple times. It’s definitely good to get confirmation, especially regarding legal documentation; however, I was asked... for information that I had previously answered in the multiple page questionnaire which I spent hours completing. It led me to believe that this questionnaire wasn’t used at all. o Along these lines, instead of using the information I provided to put together a proposal that would be customized to my needs, she used a template from prior cases which didn’t address my concerns. • Difficult to talk to o She is really hard to talk to. Most of the time I felt as though I was inconveniencing her and that she really didn’t care about my situation. Once I realized this I would have loved to switch attorney’s but unfortunately at that point realized it was too late to do so. She was also argumentative with me at times when I raised concerns about some of the decisions. o In addition, throughout the case it felt as though she just wanted to close the case as quickly as possible and hence probably made recommendations that weren’t in my best interest. • Unresponsive o There were multiple occasions where I had to wait weeks for Cynthia to deliver on her commitments. I had to send her multiple reminders and felt as though I was prioritized to the bottom. Consequently, everything ended up being rushed towards the end and I was forced to make decisions I was not happy with. • Inexperienced o We ended up going with all of the other attorney’s recommendations. Looking back I don’t think this was a good idea and had Cynthia been experienced with their recommendations would have advised against them. She in fact told me after the fact that she didn’t have experience with some of their suggestions.

While I strive to please all clients, I recognize that may not always be possible, and I am disappointed to read here about this anonymous client's experience. I make it a priority to advocate zealously for all clients, and I work very hard to be clear and well prepared in all matters, as well as communicating promptly with clients. I am open and willing to address concerns voiced during representation. I welcome this client to contact me further so I can learn more as I remain dedicated to improving my representation and client experience.

Estate Planning and Wills

My husband and I needed to do estate planning, create a will and set up a trust and guardianship for our son. Cynthia Buhr made this a very easy process. Her process for gathering our information was easy and thorough. She provided solid legal advice on how to set up specifics of our trust. She ...and her staff were easy to work with and very responsive to our questions.

Great to work with

This is the second divorce that Cynthia has handled for me over the years. While you never expect to be in that situation, it is so nice to have someone like Cynthia to represent you and help you through the process. The second time around, I contacted her again without hesitation. She is very person...able, knowledgeable, organized, prompt with her responses and documentation, and she takes the time to thoroughly walk through any questions or issues. I highly recommend her.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
