Sarbdeep Heir Atwal

Mr Atwal took care of my 35 yr old cases with precision and attention. If you care to read more specifically, this is what follows: In 1981 I was a young and foolish man who did some rather stupid things, for which I was subsequently arrested, tried, and convicted for. This I lived with ever since. ...I always felt that my counsel at that time, a new public defender, exceedingly pregnant, never really gave me much choice in my fate during those proceedings. Fast Forward 30 yrs. I want to clean my record. I've done some research, found out I could 'reopen' my case. The only real barrier in doing so was I now lived 2800 miles away, on the other coast. 'Hire a lawyer' I told myself. Well, up cropped another real barrier. Trying to find a lawyer using a search engine is harder than you would think. Using [enter search engine name here, which rhymes with Dugal] only yielded lawyer 'pools' who obviously pay a lot of money to be first in the hierarchy of search engine returns. Calls were made but only to find out that these lawyer pools were pretty well removed from the geographical area which I needed. I did find some, lets be honest, in the Yuba City area, but as soon as they heard the words "Thirty Five years ago, I did something stupid" they lost interest. Most (rightfully) claimed there would be a lot of leg-work. None of the records were digital or online. They were in file boxes in a basement somewhere or on microfiche. Subsequently all these lawyers backed out. So, I was kind of losing hope. Months would pass, and I would again do a cursory search "Criminal Lawyers + Yuba City " and again I'd get the run-around. But then one day, as luck would have it, the skies parted, the heraldic angels blew their trumpeting trumpets, and the internet gods delivered me Mr Sarbdeep Atwal. He was not in a lawyer pool. He was not a robot. Driving down a rural NC road, I placed the call. He answered immediately. I said "Thirty Five years ago I did something stupid" he said "Ok, tell me all about it" and I laid it out, told him what happened, what I wanted to happen, and could he possibly take me on or lead me in a clear direction. He accepted my case. Told me that he would do the research, gave me his fees, gave me his office numbers and who would answer when I called and would keep me apprised on the entire mess. There was absolutely no period in the next seven months (from initial contact to my standing in front of a Superior Court Judge) that he did not kept me informed, concisely, and he even sent a couple reminders and "Haven't heard from you in a bit, hope all is well" type o' emails. Records were procured, court was set, we had a date! Due to the great distance between court location and where I resided, he assured me that it was all just a bunch of formalities and I would not have to attend. This was the only time that I did not take his lawyer-like advice and I booked tickets and a car, well in advance of the court date. I notified him that I would be present during the proceedings. Flying into Sacramento, and driving to my childhood home, I passed the courthouse where the next day I would hopefully once again change my life. Court date arrives, I am so nervous I arrive almost an hour early and then spend the next fifty minutes pacing the hall... We are called in. Mr Atwal, sharply and impeccably dressed, consults the DA and Judge. There is a change, a road-bump. Did my lawyer sweat? Did he balk? No. He handled it with aplomb. He called me back to the counsel room, told me of what was going on, our course of action. A scant 35 minutes later, something that I have been trying to do for 35 years was done.
