Disappointed client

I retained Ms. Bansmer and paid legal fees with the expectation of competent representation. The services paid for were not meaningfully performed, no refund was issued, and I was billed for emails and calls that went unanswered. Communication was sporadic and often nonexistent for extended periods o...f time. Ms. Bansmer’s negligence and misrepresentation materially harmed my case. Avoidable errors and failures to act complicated my legal matter and caused additional financial and emotional distress. As a direct result of her conduct, I was required to retain and pay a second law firm to correct her mistakes. That firm was able to identify and resolve the issues efficiently, confirming that the complications were unnecessary and preventable. When I raised concerns, Ms. Bansmer consistently deflected responsibility, was highly defensive, and avoided accountability. During an in-office interaction, her behavior became verbally aggressive and intimidating, which I found unprofessional and inappropriate. Additionally, I observed that Ms. Bansmer appeared more responsive to negative online reviews than to my legitimate concerns as a paying client, further reinforcing the lack of diligence in her representation. Based on my experience, I believe Ms. Bansmer lacked the competence required to handle certain legal issues.

Very unpredictable and unethical

This lawyer lacked substance, character and respect. Always unprepared and plays blaming game on clients. She helped me with my restraining order hearing as well as custody, however opposing party is now claiming he was not properly served and was unaware of the custody hearing and he is now requ...esting changes. Her office turned around to charge me even much more to represent me for the same case that they messed up by leaving loop holes. I also retained her for divorce however all my retention fees ran out in her office without her office moving the case to court. From their invoice, they claimed phone calls and emails claimed all my retention fee. At a time they told me they were in negotiation process , turns out they never moved it beyond my documents sitting in their office. They hardly find time to do anything. After two ro three months I called them for an update, that's when they told me that some bank statements did not carry the dates they wanted and that was never communited to me until I have called multiple times seeking to know the status of my divorce. She was very unapologetic instead she blamed it all on me, I felt victimized . My divorce was unnecessarily delayed such that I am now looking for another lawyer to move it forward but her and her office are refusing to pay back my retention fees for the divorce. Beware of their so called "flat fee" because that's a trap, its not really a flat fee, you may go bankrupt. My experience with other lawyers is by far much better and I could tell the big difference. I noticed that they are not transparent and honest about a lot of things. She shifts her position on things and she just keep changing. I could never reach her over the phone and my email responses takes an average of a week or more to get response. They will try everything to get you to retain them but once you retain them its another game. I think they are too busy to handle their cases, I am convinced that she did not represent my best interest. She is very unpredictable and can easily run out of patience. One time I took my friend to her office to witness how she conducts herself but my friend came out very disappointed and upset about her conduct and her mishandling my case and he advised me to get another lawyer. There were so many things I cannot wrote here. I felt victimized in their lack of sensitivity and conduct. You can still retain her but learn from my mistakes.

Dear Joyce, I understand that this process is overwhelming and uncertain. I appreciate you reaching out to me once again. We have been through a lot during your matter and have been very successful. We have obtained a restraining order protecting you and your children, and we have obtained sole custody in our attempt to keep your family safe. When we met a couple weeks ago, I know that there was a previous misunderstanding regarding which documents were necessary to move forward with the process. I offered to subpoena the information on your behalf, in order to relieve some of the pressure and stress that you are dealing with. If you would like me to move forward with that, I am more than happy to do so upon your request. Also, I want to remind you that you have always had my personal cell phone number, as well as my paralegal’s personal contact. We have all communicated through this avenue and it has been a quick and efficient way to do so. You are welcome to continue to contact us in this manner. The flat fee representation has overall been a wonderful way to offer single services to clients that may not have the funds to hire an attorney otherwise. I know that you were very thankful for that option and this kept your costs down significantly. In order to keep the fees affordable, I purposely exclude additional services that each client may not need at the time. The fact that your husband filed a new motion is upsetting and worrisome, considering the circumstances of your situation. I appreciate that, and the fear associated with the upcoming hearing. Because of this, I quoted you the lowest possible fee in order to be present with you. I am also happy to provide you with all the evidence needed to dispute the current claims made in his motion. These documents are in your client portal, which gives you 24-hour access to all your documents. We will always be here for you. I encourage you to reach out to me personally so that I can address your concerns and hopefully find a positive resolution for you. If you choose to retain other representation, I wholeheartedly respect your decision. I want the best for you and your children, so I strongly encourage you to ensure you have an attorney to fight for you at this upcoming hearing, regardless of who that may be.

I saw Erica Bansmer ad on the internet ,I'm currently going through a divorce so I thought I would hire her for the rest of the process, during the first meeting she was nice and cordial i felt at ease with hiring her,at the end of the meeting she said she's going to take as long as possible on this d...ivorce I'm new at this so i said ok but still alittle weird why would i want this to take a long time? ok a year passes I'm getting no communication or anything at this point from her so I call and ask what's going on with the divorce, this is with her paralegal they write up a few papers I say I might like his wages garnished I still wasnt sure so her paralegal gives me papers for the tracking of the income hes been giving me,I didnt do it I didnt want his wages garnished after all,we went to court she was never prepared I told the paralegal on different occasions it's like she working more for them then me,I dont know the law she wasnt guiding me or letting me know what's the best route to take, before court I was expressing my feelings about my son how I told him no he cant stay late for a party he was disrespectful so I told him your not coming over until you apologize to me I didnt deserve what he said..Erica says to me I shouldn't have said that to my son about him being disrespectful so I was upset during the court proceedings...a couple months passed I never heard the outcome of the hearing I call they tell me..there is absolutely no communication whatsoever in this office,I was getting upset at this point nothing is being done about my divorce it's like pulling teeth for them to do anything, the paralegal hangs up on me because I never get to talk to the lawyer and there's no communication..they submitted paperwork for the garnishment without my approval or concent I found this out through my ex not my lawyer I get upset she tells me I signed paperwork which I clearly did not ,she said she submitted paperwork with the court I called nothing was filed the only thing I signed was the payment history in the middle of may which her office submitted the garnishment at the end of april..I tried to make it work with this office for what she did I could have saved thousands of dollars she did absolutely nothing I couldn't have done myself which I know now..I believe she's not the right fit she will lie to you unprofessional staff and NO communication, its been 2 years and I'm still not divorced..this has been a horrible experience with this firm ...just do your homework if you ever decide to hire her.Its bad enough to go through a divorce you dont need a bad lawyer too.

Jamie has been a client with my office since March of 2017. She came to me from another attorney’s office, as she was dissatisfied with the service. From that moment, we spent countless hours attempting to please her. Myself and my staff communicated with her after hours and on weekends, as we do with all our clients, to help her achieve the most positive and successful outcome. She would complain about the one thing we had not yet done, instead of being thankful for the hundreds of things we had already done for her. We were always met with threats of negative reviews online, no matter how hard we tried. As of yesterday, we put up our hands and waived our white flags, knowing full well that the lashing out and false accusations would occur. We realized that it was not what we did or did not do, it was not her divorce, or her ex-husband, or the custody or the Court. It was the lack of peace within. I hope you find true happiness Jamie. Best of luck.

Move on, there's better lawyers out there!!

My fiance and I hired Bansmer to be our lawyer for my divorce. She was never "available" when you needed to get information about your case or where it was at. Then she made it almost impossible for the case to move forward even though my ex and I had come together and came up with an agreement on ou...r own. She was never in a hurry to submit paperwork. She almost NEVER did any of the paperwork, 95% of the time it was left up to the legal assistant. The legal assistant would submit paperwork without proper signatures from either myself or from the lawyer herself. I was consistently getting calls from the ex's lawyer telling me that something was done wrong or not enough paperwork was submitted. I would call and the assistant would tell me that Bansmer would contact me after being in court or doing other things. I wouldn't hear back from her for a week or two. I would then have to call her back again; to find out that she was out of the office again. I heard more, feedback from my exs lawyer then her, seems that know one knows what their doing no communication going on she submitted forms that we didn't agree too...please buyer beware..
