Matthew O'Leary is a founding partner of O’Leary Wallace LLP. He practices trusts, estates, and elder law, with a special emphasis on special needs planning, conservatorships, and probate and trust litigation.
In 2010, Matthew moved to the central coast to join the boutique elder law and estate planning law firm of Stephen K. Hall & Associates. Before coming to San Luis Obispo, he worked for a boutique civil litigation law office in San Jose, California, served as a law clerk at the Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Offices, and held a judicial clerkship in the Family and Probate division of the Sacramento Superior Court.
Matthew is a northern California product (Woodland, Calif.) who first came to the central coast to pursue college athletics in the early 2000s, which made his move back to San Luis Obispo from the Silicon Valley particularly rewarding.
Matthew lives in San Luis with his wife, Stacey, their three young children, and their two fluffy dogs. If he’s not at work, Matthew is probably with his family at Avila Beach, playing bocce ball at Baileyana Winery, at Active Church in SLO, or on a basketball court or golf course.

Guardianship
I consulted with Mr. O'Leary many times during a very difficult and sad guardianship case which involved parties I love on both sides. Mr. O'Leary was very understanding and caring and helped me through this process in a very professional manner. He was always available to us any hour of the day or d...

A complete waste of time and money!
I cannot state strongly enough what a complete and utter disappointment Matthew O’Leary has been as an attorney. He wasted 16 months during which he did nothing, strung me along making promises, possibly causing irreparable harm and as yet undetermined damages to me. He did not perform on a single ...
Dear sir, This matter was a difficult one where I represented your brother in Court. I discussed various options for you but we did not petition in Court, mostly due to the set-backs you had suffered in the matter from failures to appear and respond prior to my involvement. Upon starting a new firm, I could not represent you any longer due to a "firm wide" conflict. I wish you all the very best, however. Sincerely, Matthew
"Mr. O'Leary is intelligent, prepared, ethical, effective—everything you should expect from a first-rate attorney. The fact is, he is even more intelligent and more hard-working than this brief review can convey. What truly distinguishes Mr. O’Leary, however, are his remarkably caring approach, his genuine kindness in client interactions, and his steadfast advocacy. Mr. O’Leary is wholly relatable and explains legal concepts with utmost patience. He has my fullest and most complete endorsement."
"Mr. O'Leary gets results both in court and at the estate planning table. He combines encyclopedic knowledge of estate law, a unique understanding of client goals and adds a soupçon of courtroom charisma. One might even call him an 'old soul'. I would not hesitate to hire Mr. O'Leary for any probate or estate-related matter."
"Matthew is an excellent, ethical and efficient probate attorney. I would recommend him without hesitation."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Matthew for many years, going back to when we shared a number of classes together at Santa Clara Law. It's been great to see how his career has grown over the years. I have always known him to be a prepared, dedicated, intelligent, and compassionate lawyer. He has a diverse body of experience and education to draw from, and a passion for the ethical practice of the law. I feel confident entrusting Matthew with your matter."
