Matthew O'Leary is a founding partner of O’Leary Wallace LLP. He practices trusts, estates, and elder law, with a special emphasis on special needs planning, conservatorships, and probate and trust litigation.

In 2010, Matthew moved to the central coast to join the boutique elder law and estate planning law firm of Stephen K. Hall & Associates. Before coming to San Luis Obispo, he worked for a boutique civil litigation law office in San Jose, California, served as a law clerk at the Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Offices, and held a judicial clerkship in the Family and Probate division of the Sacramento Superior Court.

Matthew is a northern California product (Woodland, Calif.) who first came to the central coast to pursue college athletics in the early 2000s, which made his move back to San Luis Obispo from the Silicon Valley particularly rewarding.

Matthew lives in San Luis with his wife, Stacey, their three young children, and their two fluffy dogs. If he’s not at work, Matthew is probably with his family at Avila Beach, playing bocce ball at Baileyana Winery, at Active Church in SLO, or on a basketball court or golf course.

We recently incorporated our business and were not very knowledgeable in regards to all it entailed. We consulted Matthew and I couldn't be more pleased. His warm and understanding demeanor made it easy for him to explain all of the legal terms and conditions in easy to understand language for us. The paperwork was done quickly and was done correctly the first time. I was impressed at all of the detail that he put into it. I left having a very confident position in what we had done and knew we had made the correct decision to incorporate and in picking the right attorney. I consulted with Mr. O'Leary many times during a very difficult and sad guardianship case which involved parties I love on both sides. Mr. O'Leary was very understanding and caring and helped me through this process in a very professional manner. He was always available to us any hour of the day or day of the week to answer questions or give advice. Guardianship Hearing
It was a difficult and sad guardianship hearing and why everyone was telling us our case would not be won, even at times when our attorney advised us to prepare for the worst, he came through and our case was won! While never giving us false hope Mr. O'Leary gave us honesty in a kind and compassionate way while explaining all the legalities and possibilities we were confronted with. We weren't just clients or a case that needed to be heard we were his mission for success and for what was right! No matter what time of day or day of the week, Mr. O'Leary was there for us. Mr. O'Leary was an answer to prayers in more ways than one, and we are truly thankful clients!

A complete waste of time and money!
I cannot state strongly enough what a complete and utter disappointment Matthew O’Leary has been as an attorney.  He wasted 16 months during which he did nothing, strung me along making promises, possibly causing irreparable harm and as yet undetermined damages to me.  He did not perform on a single promise.  He did not follow through on a single issue or matter he agreed to pursue.  Matthew O’Leary’s complete lack of professionalism, and disrespect shown to me as his client is greater than anything I’ve ever experienced from anyone, even from opposing counsel in highly contentious matters.  His negligence and complete disregard for his legal and ethical obligations are truly astonishing. I got absolutely $0 value for the money I paid him. I may as well have held $5,000 over a toilet and flushed it.
