Mr. Makler provided excellent legal counsel following an unfortunate mistake that I made during my college years, resulting in an arrest. I had one mixed drink while out with coworkers, and while giving them a ride to a bar, accidentally made a U-turn on a one way without realizing I was on a one way street. I was subsequently pulled over and after making me do several FSTs (which I did well), the cop took a blood test. My BAC came bac...k .139 which I couldn't believe. After consulting with several different lawyers, my boss told me that Bill was a reputable DUI lawyer and suggested I consult with him. After explaining my situation and why it was very important to me that I did not have this on my record due to my future career pursuits, Bill was honest, straightforward, and took the time to lay out all my options as well as explain the rationale behind each one. After hiring him, the first thing he did was win my DMV hearing so I was able to keep my license while my criminal case was pending! Unfortunately, my hearing took a year to finally schedule, but within that year, I was able to live my busy life with the freedom to drive (I work, volunteer, and travel a lot for both) because Bill won my DMV hearing. I thought about settling for a wet&reckless because the illegal u-turn and high BAC seemed almost impossible to beat, but Bill was persistent and I can not be more grateful that he believed in me and my case. When my hearing finally came almost exactly a year after I was arrested, I could tell Bill was dedicated to only my case the days leading up to it. He could tell I was very nervous and him and Maureen were nothing but kind and empathetic during the trial. During jury selection, I was so nervous that I thought about settling for the wet&reckless again, but Bill was patient with me and reiterated that it was worth the fight, but gave me the space and resources to make the decision to continue fighting. The trial took 2 long weeks and he had great expert witnesses testify that helped showcase all the flaws in my arrest and the BAC results. He was calm, direct, professional, and reasonable in the courtroom and it only boosted my confidence in him and our case. He was very articulate and was able to clearly lay out the facts without overwhelming the jury with a ton of scientific jargon about my the way my BAC could have been inaccurately tested. I feel that his directness and reason and appreciation for the law and integrity also showed throughout the hearing. I was fighting 2 charges: driving under the influence and being over .08. We won NOT GUILTY to both!!! I cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for him and his persistence and dedication to me. He never gave up while being understanding and empathetic to my anxiety. Maureen was just as amazing and supportive throughout the whole thing too and his colleague Jeff as well!
