Mr. Negley is a Certified Family Law Specialist (CFLS) by the State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. We practice exclusively Family Law and related mattters and exclusively in Ventura County since 2007. Our office has a team of lawyers with over 30 years of experience in complex lititation and mediation. We pride ourselves in providing the personal service and accesability of a small firm with the "zealous representation" that you would expect from a much larger firm. We realize that in family law, things can become emergencies and very quickly. That is why someone answers our phones 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Our staff works very hard to keep our clients happy and to be available to them in a timely fashion. Our office is conveniently located just off the 10 freeway and mintures from the Ventura County Superior Court on Victoria Avenue in Ventura. John Negley has a county wide reputation as a zealous advocate for his clients and a fierce litigator while working diligently to settle cases when it is best for his clients. Mr. Negley is a long-term resident of Ventura County where he has raised his five boys with his wife of 28 years and resides in Camarillo. Aggressive in a bad way and will juice you for fees!
Title says it all, hire someone else! I lost a ton on fees and he was not helpful on keeping up with dates.

Replied last March 12, 2024This "anonymous" post is very likely the OPPOSING party on a case I handled this week in court because they didn't get the result they wanted so they try to attack our firm anonymously. Often these are the best referrals. We zealously represent (call it "aggressively") our clients and work diligently to achieve the desired results. Because of our hard work we are the number one best reviewed family law firm in the county.

total failure
John Negley seemed to collude with the opposing party in my case. I went to court many times to find him chatting and laughing with my ex. He also spent $10k of my money in one month on "fees." Replied last March 27, 2021Unfortunately this party did not bother to leave their name and the few facts here are not familiar to me at all. As a result, I'm suspicious that this review was left by someone who was not my client at all. For the record, I am registered "independent" and never discuss politics or religion with clients. Our office provides Zealous Representation for all walks of life including the LGBTQ community. If this is a real review from a former client, there are two sides to every story. I would invite the author to contact me directly to discuss this matter more thoroughly. We are the number one best reviewed family law firm in the county and that is because we have an excellent reputation for ethically working hard for our clients and treating our clients the way we would want to be treated.

Not a good Trial Litigator
I hired John to fight and get my alimony reduced. I was assured over and over again that I had a good case...I had hired John in the past and he did ok work. But this time things were different John had way too many cases to manage and when it came time to go to court he just wasn't aggressive enough...

Replied last May 13, 2016I'm sorry you were unhappy, however I can assure you that our office was not too busy to handle your case. What you fail to mention is that over the course of your case, it became very clear that you were not providing me with all of the relevant information I needed and requested, in order to get you the results you wanted. When circumstances changed after our initial interview, and your wife lost her job, I informed you that there was a very real chance that your wife, who now makes one-third of what you make, would likely get spousal support. However you failed to mention that I successfully argued against support retroactive back to the date of filing for the divorce which saved you thousands of dollars. In addition, the spousal support on your long-term marriage was almost half of what they were asking for. You also failed to mention that in your frustration, you lashed out accusing me of unethically "working for your wife." This is absolutely false and as a result, it was my firm that chose not to represent you further. This office has a stellar reputation in the community and I will never sacrifice our ethics and reputation for any reason. You also title your comment with "Not a good trial litigator" which is a complete misrepresentation as your case never even went to trial. We work very hard to keep our clients happy, and again, I am sorry that you were not happy with our firm as it would seem you had unrealistic expectations. Despite our differences of opinion, I wish you the best in resolving your case with different counsel.

Without further details, I cannot respond with specifics as you have left the review anonymously, which makes me suspicious that this is not a legitimate review. Furthermore, I am bound by the Attorney-Client Privilege which would preclude me from discussing the details of your case in this public forum. That notwithstanding, if our client's ever have an issue or are unhappy in any way, my staff is instructed to set the client for an office (or phone) conference in order to discuss the matter and work out a amicable resolution. This would also have been discussed when you retained our firm. Here at Negley Law, APC, we work very hard to keep our clients happy and I am certain we would have done the same in your case. If you had an issue with how your case was handled, you should have contacted me directly rather than trying to damage my reputation with this online review.
