About Michelle

Learn Michelle’s areas of practice.

Anybody who knows me, knows my passion for the law. The fact is I love it! I love the challenge of solving a client’s problem, which not only entails legal, but also often emotional, financial, and even social consequences to consider as well. And what I love about law most is when justice truly prevails due to my client, me, opposing counsel, and our arbitrator, mediator, and/or judge adhering to the ideals of a system.

This passion transcends my practice in (1) Employment Development Department (EDD) Appeals, whether I am representing a claimant or employer for/against the award of Unemployment Insurance benefits; (2) an employer during a petition for Reassessment or a Claim for Refund for state employment taxes; (3) a client for Labor Code violations such as minimum wage, overtime, meal and rest breaks, and untimely payment of compensation brought before California's Labor Commission, the federal Department of Labor (DOL), or an arbitrator or court of competent jurisdiction. Whether a Private Attoney General Act (PAGA) action or a workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or wrongful termnation case, I am truly blessed to represent the California employees and employers that have trusted me to represent them.

Michelle inspired confidence.
The title says it it all. Within minutes of speaking with Michelle, I knew I found the right lawyer. She knew exactly what to ask, showing not only her experience, but making me realize I had not thought about certain details that were important to my situation. She was detailed, honest, and made me feel comfortable.

EDD/Labor Advice
I sought guidance on how to proceed on my own behalf. Ms. Reynolds understood how much time would be needed to advise me and sent a list of documents I needed to provide in advance of our 1.5 hour consultation. She was on-time, thoroughly prepared and knowledgeable on every aspect of the situation. She asked clear, precise questions to be sure I communicated everything necessary for her to formulate her advice, which was specific and explained in detail. I am now awaiting responses to the communications I sent out to see how the situation resolves. I am hopeful of the outcome.

Great Results!
Ms. Reynolds handled my case with care, efficiency and due dilligence. We were successful all due to her efforts. I do not believe I could have done it without her! As a lawyer myself, I appreciated her professionalism and passion.

Amazing CA EDD Attorney
After just receiving the letter from EDD stating that they had determined that I was not eligible for benefits because I was terminated for misconduct. I was in a state of shock, fear, and filled with anxiety. In addition, EDD sent a 2nd letter saying that the benefits that I received are now overpayment and tacked on a penalty fee on top of that. On my last day at my job, II was told by my former employer that I was being let go because they wanted to go in a different direction, but then they go and report to EDD that I was terminated for misconduct. I contacted Michelle soon after and she was instrumental in calming me down and helping me break down the events that occurred. She explained to me the laws pertaining to my situation and helped me see how I can win my appeal and receive my unemployment benefits. When I met her in person, her passion and expert knowledge of employment law made me feel like I had a good chance of winning my case. Throughout the process, Michelle was always sure to keep me updated on the latest events of the case and made me feel that she cared about my case. Being unemployed can be a stressful time. Compound that with having to fight EDD and your former employer for unemployment benefits makes things worse. I am very happy to have hired Michelle as my attorney. I credit winning my EDD case to her hard work and expert knowledge.

Second Level Appeal Success
Michelle Reynolds exceeded my expectations as she guided me through a very stressful time dealing with the Administrative Law Judge's decision to disqualify me from receiving unemployment benefits. I contacted Ms. Reynolds for legal advice on overturning the ALJ's decision and she was very thorough, knowledgeable and passionate about my case which she felt very confident that I would win my second appeal. With her guidance and advice, I won my second level appeal. If I could go back and go through this again, I would have hired her immediately to win the first appeal, and save myself the stress of going through the second level appeal process. Not only is she highly intelligent, she truly has a good heart and you can trust her to be the best attorney who will fight for you and win!

Trustworthy and Knowledgable Lawyer
Ms. Reynolds served as a great advocate for me when I had to appeal a denial for an unemployment claim. I had a employer who had switched the reasons of my termination, thus having EDD deny my unemployment claim. It was a difficult situation to navigate by myself but, luckily, I was able to hire Ms. Reynolds to help me through this. Ms. Reynolds was very professional throughout, but also displayed a genuine concern for me as a client. She was very thorough in her approach as she considered every side of the issue at hand. Her passion for helping those for unemployment claims in difficult situations really showed through her dedication, attention to detail, and responsiveness through my case. My case was presented in a very simple and organized way and in the end, the judge ruled in my favor, granting my unemployment claims to be expedited. Needless to say, I highly recommend Ms. Reynolds for any unemployment claim situations. This is truly her niche.

Excellent atty for CA EDD appeals
I retained Michelle’s legal representation services for my 2nd-level appeal hearing before the CUIAB for a UI benefits claim (claimant side). I was originally determined to be disqualified for UI benefits under Section 1256, and appealed this decision to an administrative law judge in pro per. I received an unfavorable ruling and at that point contacted Michelle for representation at the second-level appeal before the CUIAB. Michelle has been a top-notch professional from the start. She gave me a free 1-hour initial phone consultation to understand the particulars of my case. During this consultation she also provided me with objective feedback as to the pros & cons of continuing my appeal and informed me she thought I had a strong case. She was very thorough and communicative throughout the appeals process, and encouraged my collaborative input. Her thorough knowledge of precedent benefit decisions and UI/Labor code became immediately evident upon reading the appellant brief she crafted for me and subsequently filed with the Board. Despite the low chance of the CUIAB overturning an ALJ’s (administrative law judge) decision -- approx. 10-15%, I was informed recently they had done exactly that and ruled in my favor. Had it not been for Michelle’s diligence, legal acumen, and professionalism, I am convinced that my denial after the first-level hearing would have been the end of the road for my claim. I would highly recommend her to anyone, employer or employee, that may be embroiled in a similar legal fiasco.

My unemployment attorney Michelle Lee Reynolds
I hired Michelle Lee Reynolds on several EDD unemployment issues, e.g. large overpayment, quit with good cause and unintentional fraud issues. Michelle Lee Reynolds diligently analyzed my cases and brought resolution to them all. I had my benefits stopped on numerous occasions, but attorney Michelle Lee Reynolds handled all my issues, timely and professionally. She got a administrative EDD law judge overturned with a second level appeal with a 11% chance of winning, her knowledge is well calculated and her representation in person was phenomenal . I definitely recommend her for not only EDD unemployement issues, but employment issues in general. I hired Michelle Lee Reynolds for various types of work, not only for Unemployment , but other matters as well. She stands strongly behind her law firm and not only trusted by the community, but trusted by her business associates and respected. Make no mistake, she will get the job done and law is her passion and i'm 100% satisfied with hiring her. 5 Stars for sure...........

"From my first conversation with Michelle, I could tell that she was born to be a lawyer. While most people would be bored to tears by the peculiarities of the Private Attorney Generals' Act (PAGA), she spoke of the law with reverence typically reserved for Shakespeare or Harry Potter sequels. In all seriousness: if you're looking for someone who is passionate about their practice and about your case, Michelle should be on your short list. She's definitely on mine for employment law, labor, and administrative matters."
