Every stage of your family's life has a money and a tax decision hiding inside it. Buying a home. A child turning 18. Selling a property or a business. Helping a parent. Administering a trust after a loss. Handled early and well, those moments get far easier on your family. That is the whole reason we built our firm the way we did.
I co-own Meier Law Firm in Newport Beach with my wife, Laura, who founded it in 2010. Together, we've helped more than 3,000 California families plan for every stage of life and every life event.
I'm also a Certified Tax Coach (CTC) through the American Institute of Certified Tax Planners, so I design estate plans with the tax decisions built into the plan from the start: estate and gift, income, capital gains, and California property taxes, including the Prop 13 and Prop 19 decisions that can determine whether your children keep the family home's tax base. I work alongside your CPA and financial advisors so the legal structure, the tax decisions, and the financial plan point in the same direction.
Earlier in my career, I spent years in business, probate, trust, and estate litigation. I saw how families end up in conflict and court, and I design plans to help avoid those outcomes from the start.
THE MEIER LAW FIRM DIFFERENCE
Many firms bill by the hour and treat estate planning as a one-time transaction. We don't. We build a custom plan for a clear, flat fee, then stay your family's attorneys for the long run.
What our planning includes:
• A clear, flat fee, known before anything begins
• A custom plan built around your family and goals
• Trust funding, so the plan is properly implemented
• Our Kids Emergency Plan for families with minor children
• A Legacy Interview to pass on values, not just assets
• Calls and emails answered without the meter running
• We reach out at least every three years to review your plan with you
• A lifelong relationship with a firm that knows your family
For families who want it, our firm also offers faith-integrated Catholic estate planning alongside fully secular planning. California families trust us with this work, with 450+ five-star reviews on Google and Yelp.
Our firm is built to be your family's attorneys for every stage of life and every life event. The plan we sign today is the starting point. When your child turns 18 and needs powers of attorney before college, when you sell a business or property, when a parent needs help, or when a spouse passes and a trust needs administering, you call the same firm that already knows your family.
Areas of focus: estate planning, trusts, trust administration, probate, tax strategy, and wealth transfer for California families.
Licensed in California since 2006. When you're ready, use the contact options on this profile to schedule your Initial Planning Session.

Exceptional Firm & Staff
The Meier Law Firm was recommended by my trust attorney. I had questions regarding a special needs trust. Josh has expertise in Elder and Trust law. It's so funny the first time I talked with Josh, I didn't realize he was the firm's co-founder (until after he left the conference room), because he's s...

Josh was hands down THE best fit for our family. He listened to our goals and made sure that our blended family was taken care every step of the way. "Josh is very knowledgeable when it comes to business and estate planning law and does right by his clients. Highly recommended."
"Josh is extremely knowledge about estate planning and often helps and answers questions for attorneys with less experience. He is passionate about his work and ensuring his clients' assets and families are protected. As such, I highly recommend Josh as an estate planning attorney."
"Josh is certainly very skilled and experienced, however it his integrity and client-centered approach that sets him apart.
