I founded The Coopersmith Law Firm nearly a decade ago, after substantial experience as a business litigator in San Diego, and after service as a military prosecutor in the U.S. Army's Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps.
My firm has grown substantially in that time. We represent businesses and individuals with business interests at all stages of litigation, and advise clients on methods to avoid and minimize the risk of litigation. Strategic, straightforward, efficient, and effective, we understand and listen to the needs of our clients - a skill often forgotten in the modern business world.
Our primary practice is business and corporate litigation, including partnership and corporate disputes, executive-level employment matters, financial fraud, and fine art dispute matters. We also handle select public interest and municipal matters based on merit and importance.
The firm holds an "AV-Preeminent" Peer Review rating from the Martindale-Hubbell International Law Directory, and has been listed since 2014 in the Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers. We hold a "Superb" rating from the "Avvo" Legal Directory.
I was chosen as one of the San Diego Daily Transcript's "Top Attorneys" in the area of Corporate Litigation for 2012, 2013, and 2014, as a "Top Lawyer" in the San Diego Magazine each year since 2013, and as a San Diego Super Lawyer each year since 2014.
In 2017 and 2018, I had the honor of being selected as one of 50 Top Influential Business Leaders in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript.
I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1996.
Representing both plaintiffs and defendants, the firm provides clear-thinking and intelligent advice to a wide range of clients, and offers the quality of much larger firms for a cost-effective price.

Best lawyer ever!
I'm no stranger to lawsuits. I've sued people, I've been sued, I have testified in both civil and criminal trials as an expert witness, and I have never seen anyone so effective as Mr. Coopersmith. He works with you closely, gives you good advice and is very responsive to emails and phone calls. I c...

Critical thinker, decisive action, and genuine approach
As a frustrated tenant, I had the good fortune of discovering The Coopersmith Law Firm. I brought Steve Coopersmith many emotions about my dispute with an unreasonable and condensing landlord as well as layman presumptions about what could be done legally. Steve very quickly absorbed mounds of inform...
