Gross Negligence, Client Abandonment During Housing Emergency, and Professional Misconduct STATE BAR NOTiFiED

I am posting this public warning to protect other consumers from my catastrophic experience with Devin Fok and DHF Law, P.C. within just one week of signing a retainer agreement. This firm engaged in targeted professional abandonment, gross negligence, and bad-faith manipulation of time sensitive leg...al funding that directly resulted in severe financial devastation, housing instability, and documented physical distress. I hired this firm for a consumer protection matter against Checkr during an active housing crisis. Devin Fok explicitly knew my livelihood and emergency shelter depended entirely on securing immediate pre-settlement legal funding. Instead of acting with competence, he and his staff completely sabotaged my case through a systematic pattern of "ghosting" and malpractice. Written Admission of Sabotage (Rockpoint Funding): Devin Fok explicitly admitted in a written email that he submitted a half-made, incomplete packet to Rockpoint Funding because he "didn't get a chance to fully review" my vital DMV records. Withholding mandatory documentation during an active housing emergency directly caused the delay and denial of my emergency funding. Failure to supervise staff & total failure to Communicate: His paralegal, Daisy, sent written emails explicitly apologizing for completely ignoring my critical 3:30 PM PST communications during my crisis Devin just simply responded with even more incompetence by admitting he actively sabatoged my perfectly good legal funding relationship with Rockpoint funding by purposely sending them a half done file case.... *THiS MANS CHARACTER iS HiGHLY FLAWED. HE SHOULD NOT BE IN THE BUSiNESS OF LAW AT ALL. Under California Rule of Professional Conduct 5.1, an attorney is strictly responsible for their staff's neglect. The Three Strike Ghosting Timeline: On Friday 7/10, he promised submission and ghosted me all weekend. On Monday 7/13, he promised submission again and ignored all status updates. On Tuesday 7/14, after I independently secured an opportunity with Legal Bay Funding, he refused to send the packet, made false promises, and abandoned me completely. Admitted Professional Greed: When confronted, Devin Fok explicitly stated on the phone that he was dropping my case because he "did not need it" and had "other higher paying cases." Under California legal ethics, an attorney cannot dump an emergency client out of pure financial greed to pursue larger payouts elsewhere. The sudden psychological pressure and severe emotional distress inflicted by his willful misconduct reached a breaking point, causing a physical crisis that required active medical monitoring and hospital documentation. I have formally terminated his services effective immediately as of July 16, 2026, and have filed a formal Attorney Misconduct Complaint with the State Bar of California Intake Department for clear violations of California Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 (Competence), 1.4 (Communication), 1.16 (Declining/Terminating Representation), and 5.1 (Supervising Staff).Every phone log, timestamped screenshot, and written email admission from his office has been fully preserved. Stay far away from this firm if your life, livelihood, or shelter is on the line.

Sakina, I want to address your recent statements directly, and to correct the record. Our firm's engagement covers the litigation of your case. It does not include obtaining loans against your case, and we had no obligation to assist with that. We chose to help anyway because we understood the urgency of your housing situation. Specifically: I personally called Rockpoint Funding, provided them with documents, and explained the nature of your case to support your application. When Rockpoint declined, I contacted another funding source I know personally to ask whether they would consider your case. They also declined. Over the past week, we have also responded to your daily calls, texts, and emails, often multiple times per day. Lending decisions are made by the funders, not by this firm. We cannot compel any company to lend money, and their refusal is not the result of anything this office did or failed to do. Statements accusing this firm of wrongdoing in connection with your funding applications are false. If you continue to publish false statements about me or this firm, we will take appropriate steps to protect our reputation, including any available legal remedies.

"Devin's practice includes both individual and class action cases against employers and background check companies relating to background check reports. Not only is Devin very knowledgeable in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the laws relating to the use and procurement of background check reports, based on my interactions with Devin, he litigates with passion. One thing I appreciate about Devin is that he is honest and doesn't sugar coat things to make someone's case sound better. Ultimately, Devin has a well rounded combination of legal knowledge, experience, and personal traits that make him an effective litigator in his field. As such, I would highly recommend Devin to anyone looking for an attorney."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
