Naoki Sekiya is a certified specialist in immigration and nationality law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. He is the founder of Sekiya Law Office and has been practicing immigration and nationality law exclusively since 2004.
Are you planning to consult with or hire an immigration attorney? There are hundreds of immigration attorneys out there. Is the attorney you want to see a certified specialist in immigration law? As a certified specialist in immigration and nationality law (by the California State Bar the Board of Legal Specialization), Mr. Sekiya has already demonstrated the requisite experiences, knowledge, and education in this complicated area of law. This special distinction is given to only a small group of immigration attorneys in California (just over 200 statewide, only about 80 in Los Angeles County).
Mr. Sekiya received his Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (Sacramento, CA) in 2004 with concentration in taxation. He also received honors in the law school’s Immigration Clinic program. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in English in 1995 from Chuo University (Tokyo, Japan). Prior to starting his own practice, Mr. Sekiya has worked as an associate immigration attorney for Law Offices of Douglas M. Lehrman (Sacramento, CA) and Law Offices of Michael J. Gurfinkel (Glendale, CA).
Mr. Sekiya's earlier practice in Sacramento focused more on the family side of immigration. His achievements in Sacramento days include having about 150 waiver cases approved for those (mostly Mexican nationals) who could not otherwise have obtained "green card" for unlawful presence, material misrepresentation, and criminal records. Since he moved (back) to Southern California in 2010, his practice has covered both employment- and family-based immigration but concentrated on Philippine nationals. Mr. Sekiya has maintained the high (over 95%) approval rate for I-601/I-601A waiver cases.
Over the years, he has represented clients at all USCIS Field Offices in California as well as USCIS Field Offices in Honolulu, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Wichita, New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, Lawrence, Baltimore, Newark, Mt. Laurel, New York City, Long Island, Queens, and W. Palm Beach. Mr. Sekiya has also reprented clients in Immigration Court in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Adelanto, Eloy, Orlando, Honolulu, Chicago, Newark, New York City, Dallas, Harlingen, San Antonio, and Seattle.
Mr. Sekiya is licensed to practice in the State of California and can represent administrative immigration cases throughout the United States. He is also admitted to practice before U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
Mr. Sekiya is fluent in English and Japanese. Mr. Sekiya is an immigrant himself who had been through different non-immigrant classifications (A-2, F-1, H-1B, and WB) before permanently settling in the U.S. and thus understands at a personal level what many immigrants are going through.
