When someone hires an attorney for a restraining order and juvenile dependency case, the stakes are incredibly high. You need someone who shows up, knows your case, prepares you, attends critical interviews and court proceedings, communicates consistently, and advocates for you. Unfortunately, tha...t was not my experience with Koohanim Law Firm, and based on my personal experience, I would not recommend this firm. Before hiring the firm, I had lengthy consultations and was very clear about my situation. My matters involved a restraining order and a juvenile dependency case involving an allegation of failure to protect. I explained that I needed an attorney who would be actively involved, prepared, communicative, and available. I was assured my case would be handled diligently. After retaining the firm, my experience changed completely. I was passed to another attorney within the firm and essentially never spoke with the attorney I originally hired again. Communication became a constant problem. There were multiple scheduled meetings where the attorney did not show up. I repeatedly called trying to discuss my case and was continually told someone would speak with me, make time for me, or prepare with me before court. Those conversations repeatedly did not happen. Even more frustrating, I was billed for scheduled meetings that the attorney did not attend because the meetings were still on the books. I was present and prepared to meet, yet the attorney did not show up, and I was still charged. One of the most concerning incidents involved my DCFS interview. My attorney was supposed to be present but did not show up. A different attorney had to step in, and even the DCFS worker commented on the fact that a different attorney was there. I was facing an extremely serious dependency matter and felt like I was navigating critical parts of it on my own. Ultimately, the failure-to-protect dependency matter against me was dropped after I entered into a voluntary agreement. From my perspective, that outcome was not the result of work performed by this firm. I attended the interviews, dealt with DCFS, advocated for myself, and did what was required of me. My restraining-order matter was another major disappointment. The restraining order I was seeking against the other parent was ultimately not heard. From my perspective, my attorney did not meaningfully pursue the issue and moved forward without it, even though it was one of the primary reasons I hired the firm. On another occasion, I went to the courthouse at the firm's request specifically to discuss my case, only to be told they did not have time to speak with me. Before another court appearance, I was told we would consult and prepare beforehand. Instead, an attorney arrived late who, in my experience, was not familiar with my case. Again, I felt left to advocate for myself. What stood out was the contrast in communication. While I struggled to get meetings, responses, and preparation regarding my case, communication about replenishing my retainer was considerably more consistent. Combined with being billed for meetings the attorney did not attend, I was extremely dissatisfied with both the representation and billing. I fought extremely hard for myself throughout these proceedings. Looking back, I genuinely struggle to identify what I received from this representation that I could not have done myself. Based on my personal experience, I would not hire Koohanim Law Firm again or recommend them to someone facing a serious family law or juvenile dependency matter.

My review goes out the very best Mitchell Krems. For two months I have been under tremendous stress due to my court date today 2/11, the day finally came, I was an emotional mess, I was full of fears etc, Mitchell called me at 6:30am letting me know he was on his way to Court and assuring me everythi...ng would be okay. My children were in tremendous danger of being detained and taken from my care. When we get to court in fact minors counsel tried detaining, MITCHELL is a miracle worker and he fought for me and proved what needed to be proven, when previous attorneys couldn’t do so, throughout this process of Mitchell being in the court room he was updating me of everything and he always remained very confident very positive, and definitely helping me relax. And kept assuring me everything will be ok, When we walked into the court room, Mitchell wasn’t all talk, he did his job in a tremendously professional manner, he spoke up defended and proved facts and he’s definitely not afraid to speak up, I promise you this court did not have a good outcome, when the judge spoke he gave me what I asked Mitchell for, to be able to walk out that court room and come home to my kids! HE MADE IT HAPPEN, it is now 8pm and I am still in shock!!!! I am beyond happy, my heart is at peace again, my heart is complete again and I can finally sleep again. When I was looking for an attorney this office was the top one on my list, I contacted them and since day one they made me feel safe! From The first call to the assistant, to Mitchell to the court hearing! It’s just WOW! Not only is Mitchell professional he also has a great sense of humor and treats you great! He just has something that makes you feel confident! He is great at what he does and I couldn’t have chosen a better attorney; I definitely feel blessed! Thank you Mitchell, I am beyond grateful for you and your team! And definitely recommend him now and always !!!

This attorney promised to be responsive and once he received payment, he constantly missed in person and zoom meetings creating a delay in my case. As others have mentioned, him and his staff can be extremely unresponsive and on my first hearing he was asked by the judge to not be late to hearin...gs, which is when I learned that was not the first time he was late for other cases. I experienced multiple cancellations and waited for two hours in his office to be seen for my appointment, taking time off work to attend to said meetings only to be rescheduled.
