When someone hires an attorney for a restraining order and juvenile dependency case, the stakes are incredibly high. You need someone who shows up, knows your case, prepares you, attends critical interviews and court proceedings, communicates consistently, and advocates for you. Unfortunately, tha...t was not my experience with Koohanim Law Firm, and based on my personal experience, I would not recommend this firm. Before hiring the firm, I had lengthy consultations and was very clear about my situation. My matters involved a restraining order and a juvenile dependency case involving an allegation of failure to protect. I explained that I needed an attorney who would be actively involved, prepared, communicative, and available. I was assured my case would be handled diligently. After retaining the firm, my experience changed completely. I was passed to another attorney within the firm and essentially never spoke with the attorney I originally hired again. Communication became a constant problem. There were multiple scheduled meetings where the attorney did not show up. I repeatedly called trying to discuss my case and was continually told someone would speak with me, make time for me, or prepare with me before court. Those conversations repeatedly did not happen. Even more frustrating, I was billed for scheduled meetings that the attorney did not attend because the meetings were still on the books. I was present and prepared to meet, yet the attorney did not show up, and I was still charged. One of the most concerning incidents involved my DCFS interview. My attorney was supposed to be present but did not show up. A different attorney had to step in, and even the DCFS worker commented on the fact that a different attorney was there. I was facing an extremely serious dependency matter and felt like I was navigating critical parts of it on my own. Ultimately, the failure-to-protect dependency matter against me was dropped after I entered into a voluntary agreement. From my perspective, that outcome was not the result of work performed by this firm. I attended the interviews, dealt with DCFS, advocated for myself, and did what was required of me. My restraining-order matter was another major disappointment. The restraining order I was seeking against the other parent was ultimately not heard. From my perspective, my attorney did not meaningfully pursue the issue and moved forward without it, even though it was one of the primary reasons I hired the firm. On another occasion, I went to the courthouse at the firm's request specifically to discuss my case, only to be told they did not have time to speak with me. Before another court appearance, I was told we would consult and prepare beforehand. Instead, an attorney arrived late who, in my experience, was not familiar with my case. Again, I felt left to advocate for myself. What stood out was the contrast in communication. While I struggled to get meetings, responses, and preparation regarding my case, communication about replenishing my retainer was considerably more consistent. Combined with being billed for meetings the attorney did not attend, I was extremely dissatisfied with both the representation and billing. I fought extremely hard for myself throughout these proceedings. Looking back, I genuinely struggle to identify what I received from this representation that I could not have done myself. Based on my personal experience, I would not hire Koohanim Law Firm again or recommend them to someone facing a serious family law or juvenile dependency matter.

My son was taken from his mother by DCFS I didn’t know this happened until 4 and half month after he was placed in a strangers house ! And this was the second DCFS case the first one I was the victim that didn’t press charges or show up to the case because my logic was I was the victim in that case s...o how do I need to show up ? Well I was very wrong and my rights to my son were limited to 1 supervised visit per year! So for 4 years I was basically paying her to see my kid and I was paying large sums of money to do so. When I showed up to court, the court provided me with so free but terrible lawyer I left court and was reaching out to her and her office with no response calling 4-5 times a day for over a week and that wasn’t gonna work! So I literally meet or had phone conversations with every attorney that deals with these type of cases and I only had a good feeling about Matt so I retained him he promised to get me full custody of my son and we came up with a solid game plan and instructed me every step of the way he was also was my therapist and a very patient friend because I too was in the system when I was a child so I was very hard to witness my child going through the same traumatic situation , Long story short Sole physical custody and the mom only gets a 4 hour visit per month this was my dream and it’s a reality now !!!

Matt and his team did a awesome job assisting my daughter with her dependency case. When I called Matt it was an emergent case and he responded and assisted me right away. I retained Matt for my daughter and not only did he represent my daughter with the utmost compassion, he helped tend to the famil...y's needs as a whole. I also liked that the initial retainer was a flat cost and there were no hidden additional fees. Thank you Matt and your team for all the hard work you do assisting families when they need you most!

I know this is a difficult time for those who are reading and searching for a good attorney to defend you in a criminal case or CPS Case. I can only speak on the behalf of Matt koohanim. And which I hired Matt to work for me. First off I have to say that his profession in these areas is very personal... to him and he take it very personal. I know from experience that it is not about the money with him. Matt has a big heart and applies it with his job he is more into proving the truth in your case Matt has won a criminal case for me for child endangerment and is now working towards getting my baby home from the CPS he knows the process and procedures to the element of your surprise.
