My name is Yasmin Castillo. On April of 2017 my father was detained into immigration custody. As long as I can remember my father, sister and myself were terrified of my father ever getting detained. We knew deportation was going to be his future if that ever happened to him. This was a constant fear... in all of our lives for years. This nightmare became true in 2017. I have never felt so helpless in my life. I was four weeks away from graduating from Cal State Dominguez Hills. I was terrified of everything going on with my dad. I contacted so many attorneys and they all provided guidance, but no support. However, until a friend of mine introduced me to an attorney named Pascual. ( I really hope I have his name right, it’s been a while, but he was the connection I needed to meet Doug). Pascual, demonstrated sympathy for me and my sister since the moment I talked to him. He was one of Douglas colleagues. He talked to Doug about our case and his colleague gave me his information to reach out to Doug. At this point, I was losing hope because attorneys are insanely expensive. Trust me, every call I made, all attorneys talked about was money. I was about to graduate, in between finals, about to loose my first job in college. But most importantly, I was about to loose my dad. I had never experience an immigration process like this. At this point, I reached out to Doug, he was my last hope. Without hesitation Doug, listened to me and he took our case PRO BONO! I mean Pro Bono!! Without even knowing me and just having one simple conversation over the phone. He tried his best for me to only pay the most minimal fees possible. He knew that paperwork and court records all required income. And he knew my financial situation at that time. My sister and I were both in college. My dad was my biggest financial supporter. So he did everything in his power to not charge for his services. He walked me through the whole process of how things would look like for my dad. Doug, supported my dad like no one else did. He had the same hope that we had. He was the only attorney in this world, who helped my family in one of the most challenging moments of our lives. Yes, cases may take years, but what immigration case isn’t? At times, we would get frustrated, but NEVER with Doug. We would get frustrated of this horrible immigration system that we have. We need more attorneys like Doug in this world. Until this day, we’re in 2020 and my dad is still here with me and my family. It’s been three years that i thought I would never get with my dad again. I don’t know what the future looks like for my dad, but I am grateful with the time that Doug has gifted us with my dad. Everyone in this world, believed my dad would get deported right away. But Doug, never lost hope. I don’t know all the legal proceedings, but all I know is he has kept my dad here. Bless his heart for all the incredible things he does for people in our community. I am fortunate to spend another holiday with my dad. This all thanks to the passion, love, and sympathy he has for clients. He continues with my dads case until this day, but i will never trust another immigration attorney if it’s not Doug! Thank you Doug for the honesty and patience that you have. My dad is not the best client, and you have worked tirelessly to keep him motivated. You rock!’ Can’t thank you enough!
