Amazing Partner During a Difficult Time

As I come to the 5-year anniversary of my Dad’s death I decided that writing this letter was the right thing to do and might be part of the healing process. I’ll write it so that you can share it with prospective clients who may find comfort knowing what you’ve done for others who faced similar situa...tions. Five years ago, my life was turned completely upside down. My biggest cheerleader, my Father, was killed in an accident involving a truck from Canada. I’ll never forget the feeling of hearing the words that my Dad had been killed and thinking, “How will I ever make this okay? We shouldn’t be having this conversation—it’s Mom’s birthday and they’re supposed to be here to visit their grandson and celebrate their birthdays!” Within days of my Dad’s funeral, I contacted the trucking company whose response was, “Why do you think anyone here wants to talk to you?” I was at a loss—they were in Canada, my Mom was in NC and I was in CT. How could I take care of everyone and find justice for my Dad? Then a package came from your firm. In the beginning I wasn’t sure if filing a suit was the right thing to do or not. However, I decided that the only way to make the company think about what they were doing and who they were putting behind the wheel was from the financial perspective. From my first conversation with Cara, I knew that I’d found someone my Dad would have loved. Her compassion, professionalism and commitment were so evident. We went through 3 years of exchanging paperwork, phone calls and tears before we finally came to mediation. Throughout the experience I always felt that the firm was there with me. You put tireless hours and money into making sure that the case was being built the right way. I never felt out of the loop. Cara was always patient and willing to answer my questions, explain the process and reassure me that she was there. She accepted that there were days when I found joy in sharing stories about my Dad, and others when I was angry that he’d been ripped from our lives. She always answered my questions in my need to understand the process completely so that I could help my Mom and brother through what had ripped our family apart. Never did I feel pressure that we needed to close the case before its time. I knew that I had a partner until the end—whenever that was going to be based on the court system. Cara did a fabulous job of fighting to make the deposition process easier for my Mom. She negotiated that the attorneys come to her vs. her having to travel. Cara came to the court hearing for the trucker— even though he never showed and to my knowledge never paid the fines assessed by the state of Maryland. She stood by me when I met the witnesses who had stopped to help my Mom that day. She was the definition of professional, but also became a friend. Your hard work has enabled my Dad to leave a legacy behind that will make a huge difference in my son’s (Michael -7) life. It is amazing that out of such tragedy a good life lesson is learned. That lesson is that there are wonderful people in this world who are willing to help others. Thank you all for everything! I wish there were a better way of expressing my gratitude as those words seem entirely too small for what you came to mean in my Dad’s life. My Dad would have been proud to have you all working for him. Please feel free to share my information with anyone. I’d love the opportunity to repay you in some small way for all you’ve done. Also, to be able to help someone else through their difficult time would be an honor. I give you my highest recommendation. Thank you! Peggy Delano

Extremely Grateful

We are extremely grateful to Cara Luther who literally held our hand through the legal process after my mother was killed by a big rig. She not only kept us updated, but helped us to understand throughout the entire evolution. She was very responsive to all questions and provided support to each of u...s that will never be forgotten. She took the time to listen and provided not only her legal expertise but her compassion for what we were all going through. She knew how difficult losing Patricia was for all of us and she did not force us to relive any details of her death unless absolutely necessary. Thank you just doesn't seem enough. But we thank her from the bottom of our hearts for her never-ending professional and emotional support. Your organization has earned the endorsement of our entire family. Families and individuals who allow you the opportunity to represent them are making an extremely wise decision. They will recognize immediately that they have made the right choice in Baum Hedlund, we know we did.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
