John B. Shook is a co-founder of Shook & Stone, Chtd. and is active as lead trial counsel on many of the firm’s largest cases. With over 18 years of experience in complex personal injury trial work, John represents adults and children injured or killed as a result of defectively designed and manufactured products, as well as victims of medical malpractice, defective premises, motor vehicle negligence, industrial accidents and insurance bad faith.
John is a member of the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Nevada (Elected Chair of the Clients’ Security Fund 2009-2011) and the Oklahoma Bar Association. He currently serves as a Mentor with the State Bar of Nevada's Transitioning Into Practice program for newly licensed attorneys.
John is a past member of the Board of Governors for the Nevada Justice Association where he has been honored for his help in enacting legislation aiding Nevada's injured and disabled. John is also a Colleague of the Nevada Law Foundation and a graduate of both the National Criminal Defense College and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. In addition, John has served as a member of the Nevada Medical Legal Screening Panel which reviewed for merit all medical malpractice claims filed in the state of Nevada and as an arbitrator for the Eighth Judicial District court-annexed arbitration program.
John’s dedication to protecting clients is evidenced by his work enacting legislation requiring insurance companies to notify injured victims when settlement drafts are issued in an effort to curtail theft by unscrupulous attorneys of their client's personal injury settlement proceeds.
John is married to Julie Shook, a deputy district attorney with the Clark County District Attorney’s office. Together, John and Julie actively support a variety of charities including HELP of Southern Nevada, the Children’s Advocacy Project (Legal Aid of Southern Nevada), the American Kidney Fund, Our Lady of Las Vegas Parish School and the KLUC annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive. Additionally, as a member of Nevada’s Citizens for Justice, John has made significant charitable contributions to help ensure that the law protects individuals who would otherwise not have a voice in our government.
