Beware

Ran up huge ($70,000) fees for divorce which should have ended sooner and much differently. Failed to file documentation in timely manner, asked for detailed docs but effectively did no use them, threatened to withdraw one week before trial if I didn't agree to a very unfair settlement despite being ...paid an additional 10K to "get us through trial". Unprepared for a deposition which was a farce. Beware.

This posting is not at all accurate. Not every client approaches their divorce case in a rational manner and can accept the realities of divorce litigation. Unfortunately, cases become expensive when clients are not honest with their attorneys, continuously refuse to follow the advice of their counsel, and are unhealthily angry toward the other party to the point where they cannot see the realities of their own case.

Poor

If anyone has experienced the fleecing and price gouging that I personally encountered from attorney Michael Carman (formerly of Law Offices of Kunin and Carman), there is recourse! I received a binding DECISION yesterday from the Nevada fee dispute program in the amount of $11,257.50! While it d...oesn't cover the full $21,000.00 I lost, it's a start. They even point out that he dropped my case on the eve of my trial. Save yourself the hassle!.... but more importantly a panel of His peers saw it my way (2 attorney's and 1 lay person ). Case #FD15-06* if readers are interested. They also address his excessive fees. Quote: Michael Carman's "charge of 4% to cover costs is determined to be excessive and unreasonable and therefore NOT ALLOWED in light of the fact that Respondent (Carman) charged for ALL itemized expenses." "All work negotiations and preparation for trial were WITHOUT merit and of NO value".

Prior to this client retaining my prior firm she had been deemed unfit by the Court and had very little contact with her children. After undertaking the monumental task of restoring her parental rights and moving her case in the right direction, and investing my time and energies to her defense, I had to withdraw from her case due to her inability to pay a trial retainer and irreconcilable differences of opinion as to how her case should be handled. After dedicating a tremendous amount of time trying to help her and achieving amazing results for her, she has come to the conclusion that there was no value to the services that I provided and refuses to recognize all that I did for her.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

terrible experience, handled my divorce exactly how I asked him not to, ran up legal fees for no reason and after it was all said and done I got what I initially told him to offer, the only one that did well was him and his firm. In addition, I had to follow-up with him as I was left in the dark thro...ughout the process, talked a good game in the beginning tho! but fumbled it the rest of the way and in front of the judge as well.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
