Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience working with Craig Gillespie. In early 2012, I confessed to my employer that I had been embezzling money to support an out of control gambling addiction. Having never broken any laws before and being completely in the dark with how the legal proc...ess works, I was beyond scared. The prosecution was pursuing 6-9 years in prison. Due to AZ Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines, I was aware that the minimum sentence I could receive included at least 1 year incarceration. Craig Gillespie went to work to help me submit an extensive mitigation package. He worked with my counselors and support group to learn more about my mental history and he took over the legal proceedings so I could focus on my recovery. He truly seemed to care about my situation and what led me to cross the line into criminal behavior. I was grateful to have Craig by my side during the many hearings in front of the Judge. He was extremely professional, a great orator and clearly had a strategy in place for my defense and mitigation. Craig Gillespie skillfully negotiated a plea deal which I accepted for 1-4 years. While this was still frightening to me, it was a much better offer than the original 6-9 years. In the end, I was sentenced to 1.25 years in prison by a thoughtful judge who understood the power of addiction and who was clearly impressed by the mitigation case that Mr. Gillespie submitted. Due to an early release for good behavior, I served 7 1/2 months. In my view, Craig Gillespie saved my life and I am eternally grateful.

In 2013 I was charged with a felony domestic violence offense. The charge I felt was unwarranted and I wanted to fight to get it dismissed. My participation in the diversion program got my case dismissed, instead of pleading guilty to a lessor offense. Ultimately a better outcome. I truly appreciate the assistance Craig and his office provided me, they kept me informed along the way and even after months of waiting for dismissal, they never forgot about me or my case.
