Marilyn was terrible!

It's been a while, but it's probably worth sharing my experience with Marilyn. Better late than never. I went through my divorce back in 08. I hired Marilyn, who told me to put an order on my (now) x wife, because I told her she had punched me in the face on multiple occasions and pulled a gun on ...me once. When I returned to Marilyn's office to read what they had drawn up, I wouldn't sign it because it wasn't truthful. There were things added I had never mentioned. I had to pay Marilyn more money to have her assistant Grant change things back the way I originally said it happened... We ended up at the old 4th District Court and as a group of us were sitting in a waiting room before court, Marilyn asked everyone to leave the room except me. She then told me to lie in court and when I told her I wouldn't, she told me I was "too difficult to work with" and basically dumped me right before court. The order was dropped and I was left with a massive bill, over $10k. Anyway, her and Ron Wilkinson, my x wife's attorney, were a couple of mud slingers who clearly only cared about getting paid and doing the right thing. I would never recommend either of those two, unless you're into that bs.

I have been in practice for over 30 years. I have NEVER advised a client to lie to the court. In fact, I have had to withdraw from several cases when I found out my client was being untruthful to me and to the court. My reputation in the community, my peers, and the court reflects this--that I am an honest (though tough) attorney. I have never heard from any client making these allegations. The "facts" stated by this purported client are absolutely false.

The BEST attorney in Utah!!

I had the opportunity to have Marylyn as my attorney, and she was the best thing that happened to me during a very stressful time.  She did a marvelous job in my case. She was very confident in negotiating with the opposing attorney, and never once did she back down in our position.  During the divor...ce process my X was extremely difficult, at one point even making threats against me; and Marilyn had the wisdom to file for a restrain against him.  That action made all the difference in the world, and brought me so much peace in a very difficult process. She took care of the entire divorce in a short period of time and was very reasonably priced. I am so very thankful to Marilyn for her expertise, intelligence and professionalism. Someone referred her to me as a wonderful divorce lawyer, and they were right. I was glad to have the best divorce lawyer in Utah! Since my divorce, I have recommended Marilyn to several friends, because she is honest, hard working, cares about her clients; and more importantly, she will help you obtain the best deal possible. Thank you, Marilyn, for such an excellent job with my divorce and for going the extra mile. You are the best.

Save yourself from regretting what you did by hirering her!

Was told the price of an easy divorce cost and a hard divorce cost so I said we better plan on the hard divorce cost, she told me $4,500.00. I ended up with not even a 1/4 th of what I should have gotten for alimony! I had no vehicle for 4 months, finally after 8 months was able to go get my perso...nal things, 2 hours in my house! The rest of the assets were by law to be split 50/60, well I got 0 of the assets, he got the toyhauler, 2 dirtbickes, 4 4 wheelers, 30 guns, safe that I bought to hold 60 guns, all 4 vehicles, boat, and the list goes on. Mediation lasted 14 hours! He let the neighbors go through my things and take what they want. He had a big blue dumpster delivered and threw away the rest of my personal items, allot of antiques from family members. And that’s just a small portion of what happened! Steer clear of this firm!

I believe this is posted from an opposing party or someone wanting to affect AVVO ratings, as this review is anonymous and no client of the firm has ever expressed any of these complaints. In addition, I have never advised a client to settle in mediation with 0 assets. This clearly is not from a client of the firm.

Disappointed, Poor Results

Marilyn was recommended as a good divorce attorney. However, I would look elsewhere unless you prefer excessive fees, no or poor communication and an attorney looking out for their own interests over yours. I felt intimidated and pressured to sign the final divorce decree which I verbally told her ...I didn't feel right about. And she continued to send me documents to sign which after I reviewed were either full of errors or would hurt my position further. Even after bringing up the errors, she would send back the documents still in error. She is not attentive, glosses over issues you may have and undermines your concerns.

I am troubled by contents of this review. I have been practicing law for a long time and these complaints are foreign to the way I handle cases. In addition, because I have never been contacted by a client expressing the same concerns and this review is anonymous, it makes me question whether this is from an actual client of the firm. If this is from a client of the firm, I would love to have opportunity to address these issues.

Choose the Best

Even though going through a divorce was a financial disaster, it was worth every penny to get an attorney who was so phenomenal. She and her staff responded promptly to my questions and concerns, were thorough in the court documents and proceedings. I couldn't have asked for a better settlement, I ...will always be grateful she was on my side!
