I am a Colorado native with a passion for helping others and guiding them through tough times. After college in Boulder, I attended the University of Michigan Law School, from which I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Order of the Coif. During and after law school, I held a variety of jobs, from clerking at the University to interning with a Judge on the Colorado Court of Appeals to a stint in international and regional civil law firms, working on technical and complex legal counseling and litigation projects.
I moved to Colorado Springs in 2017 and love this community. I built an appellate and family practice, working on juvenile, family, probate, and civil cases in the appellate courts. Through that practice, I have drafted hundreds of briefs, argued dozens of cases. Several of those cases were published, changing or clarifying the law in Colorado. And in the trial courts, I work on family law, juvenile, and probate cases, including divorce, custody, and guardianship matters. Since 2023, I have also worked part-time as a municipal court judge for the City of Colorado Springs, presiding over traffic, criminal, and city ordinance matters.
I have worked hard to serve this community, from volunteer leadership with the local bar association and The Colorado Lawyer (the statewide bar publication) to pro bono work. I believe deeply in the value of lawyers as service-oriented leaders and try to do my part. I am honored to have been asked to present locally, statewide, and nationally, and I am proud to have been recognized by local and state organizations for my accomplishments and contributions.
As a parent and community member, I understand the challenges my clients face and walk beside them through their legal journey. My experience allows me to advocate thoughtfully, creatively, and efficiently for my clients, and I look forward to many more years of service to clients and community.

Joel guided me through a difficult situation with an x-spouse with the utmost professionalism. I hired Joel Pratt as my attorney in a common law divorce case in which my ex-wife was in contempt. There were many moving pieces and me being overseas was the biggest factor to overcome, Joel was up to the task. When my case was brought before the magistrate the first time (for the contempt hearing)...
"Joel is an attorney committed to providing the highest quality representation to clients. He is compassionate with a strong attention to detail, which enables him to advocate for his client's best interests both in and out of the courtroom. I endorse this attorney."
"I was fortunate enough to get to know Joel at the University of Michigan Law School, where we were both active members of the Michigan Law Review. Joel is extremely intelligent, and someone who I highly recommend without any reservations."
"Mr. Pratt is a very knowledgeable, professional, and savvy attorney. He has represented family members and I endorse him and refer him to others."
"Joel is a brilliant attorney who cares about his clients and his practice. I would not think twice before hiring Joel for my own legal matter."
