About Byron
Biography
I am an estate planning and probate attorney based in Denver, Colorado, with more than 30 years of experience in estate planning, trust drafting and administration, and probate and estate matters. Because every client and family is different, I take a practical, individualized approach to each matter, emphasizing solutions that fit the client’s particular circumstances and goals. I enjoy helping estate planning and trust clients put thoughtful plans in place, and I consider it a privilege to help families navigate the often difficult process of administering an estate after someone has died.
For 22 years, I served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, teaching courses in Trusts and Estates, Health Law, and Elder Law. I have written and presented on a range of estate planning and elder law topics and have chaired and participated in numerous continuing legal education programs and professional conferences.
Originally from Kansas, I earned my bachelor’s degree and MBA from Wichita University and my law degree from Washburn University. After practicing in the Kansas City area, I relocated to Denver in 1995, where I earned a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from the University of Denver and became a partner at a law firm specializing in estate planning, probate, special needs trusts, elder law, and Medicare compliance.
I am licensed to practice law in Colorado, Missouri, and Kansas and am also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. My professional recognitions include an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell, selection to Colorado Super Lawyers from 2019 through 2027, and an Avvo rating of 10.0 (“Superb”), including recognition as a “Top Attorney – Estate Planning.”
