domestic violence

I recently had to search for an attorney in Colorado for a domestic violence case in Colorado. Matt, handled my case with great finesse and compassion. He is very honest and will tell you how it is and what he feels he can do for you. He is very professional and a great communicator. Quick to ...respond to all your needs.

Even the prosecutor complimented his agressive and thorough defense summary!!!

Right off the bat, please let me say that you should know your rights and never ever give up or take for granted that you are being charged with a crime, no matter how insignificant the situation may seem! I made the terrible mistake of holding items in my pockets while shopping and completely forgo...t about them and upon exiting the store was detained and was ultimately charged with theft by a major retailer. The police were summoned immediately. The department store staff and the police were sympathetic and understanding when I explained I had every intention of paying for the items, but nevertheless the officer ended up giving me a citation for theft and a summons to appear in court. The officer explained to me that it was NO BIG DEAL and that I should just show up to court on the set date, plead guilty and I would get fined and maybe community service and let it be done with it. And I would have done exactly that, if I had not run it by my father first. When I told my father about my mishap his immediate response (after he called me every name in the book) was that I needed legal representation immediately because I clearly did not understand the severity of the issue. After some internet navigation he came across Mr Matthew Hand and chose him because my father said he seemed to have the legal experience I badly needed. I was extremely impressed with Mr Hand's professionalism from the very beginning. He explained to me how difficult the case was because of the overwhelming evidence collected against me, (statements from the store personnel, the police, and store video surveillance, plus everything I myself said against me because the police officer put me at ease and I was more chatty than I should have been) but that despite all of this he was going to try to negotiate a favorable outcome. He explained in great detail each and every single one of my options and the possible outcome of each one and all of them seemed very distasteful. A conviction would have spiraled my plans and future complete off track. But after every meeting and email swap with Mr Hand I would update my dad and he would tell me, "Stick with Mr Hand, he is going to help you through this." And of course, he did! Well the big day came and I was a nervous wreck! We show up to court and Mr Hand explains to me that he will try and plea it to where I can do community service, some classes and a fine, and hopefully obtain a case dismissal upon completion of all programs, but again, no guarantees. Since I understand that mistakes have consequences I prayed for this outcome which seemed fair. The prosecutor and Mr Hand went into the adjacent room to confer for what seemed like an eternity and when they returned the prosecutor looked right at me and told me, "Young man, you have been diligently represented." You made the right choice in selecting your defense council and we will be dismissing the case when the judge returns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No classes! No fines! No community service! Even told the judge that even though there was ample evidence to properly prosecute, that in the name of justice the defense summary showed I deserved another chance! So there you have it! That evening we said a prayer for Mr Hand too! I will close with 3 things! 1) I apologize for the length of this review! Cannot tell my story in less words! 2) I am currently studying to hopefully become an EMT with the local fire department so a favorable outcome was very important to me. 3) Take my father's advice like I did and if you need legal help, seek out Mr Hand immediately! I almost did not and it would have cost me my future! One meeting with him will convince you that although there are many choices out there for you, choosing him as your legal council will be the correct choice! My case although small, seemed extremely difficult but we won! He will believe in you and will fight for you till the very end!

Excellent Professionalism

My case was extraordinarily one sided and I was facing jail. I violated my probation requirements and the court had every intention in enforcing the punishments at there discretion. With a lot of work and a keen sense of the law, Matthew found loopholes and discretions within my case to keep me out o...f jail and reinstate my probation. This saved my job, my possessions and my sanity. I would highly recommend Matthew for his professionalism and thoroughness. Thanks Matt!

Thank You Matt!

Two years ago my husband got himself into a horrible situation in Grand Junction where he was charged with several felonies carrying mandatory minimum sentences. We're Denver residents, but initially hired a Grand Junction attorney trying to avoid the cost of having someone from the city commute. Aft...er 7 months of continuances and no offer on the table that would prompt us not to go to trial, we fired our lawyer and went on a desperate hunt for new representation. Matt was one of the first Denver guys I spoke with, and although he ended up not having time to take the case because of location and cost for us, his sincere concern for my families plight was incredible. He went above and beyond what I would have ever expected out of a mere consultation. He even kept me in mind when at a conference on the western slope, he ran into an attorney he held in high esteem, told him about my case, and referred him to me the next day. In the end, the DA caved and offered a misdemeanor deal with no jail and 9 months probation. I thank Matt from the bottom of my heart for his support and willingness to help my family. Having been a district attorney himself, he has extensive knowledge of the law, and understands the strengths and weakness of both sides. I hope I never again need his services, but if I find myself in that unfortunate predicament, Mathew Hand will be the first number I call.

Competent

Sometimes in life, circumstances occur that may be out of your control. I had been searching for a competent attorney to represent me on a criminal matter. Since, I had some previous criminal history it would complicate matters for any attorney taking on my case. However, I explained my case to Matt ...and was impressed by how he had researched the law concerning my case, and prepared motions within a small time frame. In some cases, criminal defendants are not always happy with their attorney's. On my first court appearance, I was pleased to see Matt in court. The case had been satisfied prior to our court appearance. Not only was I satisfied with Matt's efforts, it didn't stop there. Matt made sure that the court which initiated the order and reason for my arrest was addressed and satisfied in that court. Not only has Matt helped me with the criminal matter ( not dealing with the restrictions that are not always beneficial in criminal cases) but have been able to continue forward in my life and finishing my degree. Facing a criminal charge can be very stressful, you need an attorney that is knowledgeable of the law, but more importantly has passion for his work. I would definitely Recommend Matt to Review your case and Represent you in the matter.

"I have known Matt as a prosecutor and since he decided to become a private defense attorney. He has a reputation as an intense litigator who zealously represents his clients. He has a knack for being able to talk to jury’s about the socially awkward truth in dealing with sensitive matter. This makes him the right person to talk to for Criminal defense cases especially Domestic Violence. He has a reputation for being someone who does not judge people. He listens to the reasons and underlying facts of each case. This allows him to have and open perspective and to see the defenses other lawyers miss."
