Austin Murray Cohen

I lead the family law practice at Kontnik | Cohen, LLC. I began my legal career working alongside a judge in a state trial court, and then moved up to federal appellate court (1 level below the U.S. Supreme Court). Flowing from these judicial experiences is a unique legal perspective that I rely upon in all cases. I believe that the best outcomes are the result of a diligent and detailed preparation. Favorable outcomes in and out of court are fueled long before settlement conferences and trials. I have had many favorable outcomes inside the courtroom but am equally experienced in mediation and negotiation. I approach all cases with a high attention to detail and an eye towards settlement. 

My primary focus and passion is undoubtedly family law. In helping people though some of the most difficult times, I rely upon my ability to read between the lines to gain a competitive edge during a case. From time to time, I also enjoy working on interesting cases outside the family law arena. In 2014, I was part of the team that received the highest civil rights settlement (at the time) in the City of Denver for excessive police force.

For fun and entertainment, I enjoy spending time with my family, skiing, or working with the two non-profits that I support: Denver Active Children's Foundation, which donates $1M per year to at-risk youth, and Wish of a Lifetime, which grants life-long wishes to our country’s eldest generation. During college, I was on the Div. II Men’s Ice Hockey team and, in high school, was a team caption for our two-time state champion hockey team.
