. Meggin is a collaborative lawyer who tries to be fair. I believe she is does not want long lengthy court battles. She compromises to the point of making costly errors. She did not always communicate effectively with me and at times took 4 weeks to reply to an email. I am not sure if she does not... read things correctly or she just did not think things through which resulted in the loss of thousands of dollars in both time & money to me. Perhaps she just was not able to communicate why she did something the way she did and never admitted it was an oversight or she meant it to be that way. At one point my ex asked for clarification on an appraisal & she refused to give it to him which resulted in our settlement being dragged out longer than it should of. At the very end of the process, she looked at what my ex was asking for clarification about & agreed with what he asked about in the first place. That error resulted in months of additional time waiting to settle and she gave into them at the end which again cost me. She recommended I use a divorce financial analyst that I thought was worthless and after the fact I wasn’t sure what she wanted to gain by using the financial analyst. When I mentioned to her that he wasn’t very good, she told me she was glad I told her so she would not recommend him again. I thought if you recommend someone, you should have a handle on if their service was valuable. I think Meggin tries to do things correctly, but I don’t think she always has a firm handle on when she should compromise especially with attorneys who do not operate with same level of fairness that she believes in. There were times I felt like we were being manipulated by my ex & his attorney & she let it happen. I thought for a while about consulting another attorney, but I knew it would just drag things out and ultimately result in me losing more money. I think if she would have ultimately communicated better when I questioned why something seemed wrong, perhaps I would have not lost confidence in her. I still gained resources by using her but only because my ex did not want to use an attorney to begin with. If I had to do over again, I would not use Meggin Rutherford as my attorney. I think she is a big proponent of collaborative divorce – she is president- which I believe could take the sting out of the divorce process but only if both parties buy into it. If there is a chance that the other party attorney is not into the collaborative process, I would not use her. She will give away instead of fighting.
