I was in the midst of a highly contentious child custody case when another attorney referred me to Ms. Wilkens. I had already had to fire one attorney for incompetence, and was really starting to pull my hair out. My abusive husband had left us for another woman in 2009, only to come back with a Chi...ld Custody Suit in 2016. My previous attorney (2nd one) had made a real mess of things in only three months and I was looking for somebody I could count on. Unfortunately, Ms. Wilkins wasn't it. After meeting her, I had a good sense, but things quickly started to go wrong. She began drafting documents I didn't authorize, and then wanting to charge me a LOT for them. At a hearing, she did not defend me, and let it go on for three needless hours. She then began demanding more money than we owed her according to the Attorney/Client Agreement. We were already paying $500 a month on top of the retainer. This was all we were supposed to pay according to the Agreement. When we didn't pay more, she quit. But the thing is, she told the Judge she quit because we did not pay her. This was not true or correct. Two days later I had to represent myself at a Settlement Conference. Teresa helped with my post-decree modifications in a very high-conflict divorce. This was one of the hardest things I've ever gone through, and she made the whole process so much easier. I felt confident the legal advice she gave me was correct, and she was detail oriented and strongly advocate...d for my rights both in the courtroom and with other involved parties, such as our CFI and Parenting Time Supervisor. I was able to focus on what was best for my children because she was focused on what was best for me. It was a long, unpleasant process, but I never felt overbilled and the unpleasantness was often negated by her 'bedside manner'. I know my situation could have been a lot worse if I hadn't had her on my side the whole way, advocating for me and providing me with sound legal advice.
