I was the first Texas attorney to become board certified in both civil appellate law and criminal appellate law. I was one of only 16 attorneys who passed the Criminal Appellate Law certification exam when it was administered by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for the first time in October 2011. I then passed the Civil Appellate Law certification exam in 2012.
I have worked on numerous civil and criminal appeals and post-conviction writs in Texas, and I have argued cases at the state courts of appeals in Austin, San Antonio, Amarillo, Houston [1st Dist.], El Paso and Corpus Christi (sitting in Austin), as well as at the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans and before two federal district judges in Corpus Christi, one federal district judge in Brownsville, and one federal magistrate judge in Brownsville.
Whether I am court-appointed or hired to represent a client, I use my best efforts to explain the client's appellate options and obtain a favorable result.

I was asked questions on Avvo, he answered my question very quick, then I left him a message about post-conviction writ. he calls me back within 10 mins, and he recommends another attorney that he knows is also experienced.

Mr. Sherwood, thank you so much for your help in answering my questions. I consulted several other attorneys but didn't get anyone to answer my questions. Mr. Sherwood is not just an attorney, he is such a good man and answered my questions with detailed explanation.

This attorney read my questions very carefully and answered well. His answers are helpful to me, a pro se plaintiff.
"I really enjoy reading Attorney Sherwood's posts on AVVO. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all aspects of appeals. I endorse this lawyer."
"I endorse this lawyer. Gregory is board certified, which speaks to his skill and experience. I know him best from his Avvo answers, which demonstrate the breadth of his criminal defense knowledge. If I was convicted of a crime in Texas, I wouldn't hesitate to call Mr. Sherwood."
