Biography

Joe Milner has practiced law in Austin, Texas for 51 years. For the past 33
years he has held the top AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier and
nationally-recognized rating service, based on the opinions of members of the
Bar and the Judiciary. As an attorney-mediator, he has extensive experience in
Family Law, including child custody and contested divorce related cases, general
civil litigation, contracts, estates, probate, medical malpractice, commercial
and business litigation and real estate law. He is Board Certified in both
Family Law (since 1979) and Civil Trial Law (since 1980).

Over the course of his career, Joe has handled the most complex of family law
cases including those involving extensive property issues, custody disputes,
child support and child custody modifications, and property division. His extensive
trial experience in numerous trials across Texas, coupled with his work as a
mediator and collaborative law practitioner enable him to be an excellent
advocate for clients with any family law issue.

Joe's clients find him to be compassionate, highly responsive, strategic, and
thorough, tailoring his handling of their case to meet their needs and best
interest. In cases where children are involved, Joe recognizes the need to
achieve outcomes that protect the children and keep the family unit as intact as

In an effort to meet the unique needs of his clients, Joe became certified as a
Collaborative Family Law Attorney in 2001. While the collaborative approach is

As a highly recognized Mediator and Arbitrator, Joe has conducted over 3,000
mediations in a wide variety of cases in communities in Texas and over 60
arbitrations. He is a past President of the Association of Attorney-Mediators
Cen-Tex Chapter, and a past chairman of the Travis County Bar Association ADR
Committee. Joe has been a Guest Lecturer and Trainer for Negotiation and
Mediation at the University Of Texas School Of Law.

Joe and the members of the Friday Milner Lambert Turner, PLLC, are deeply

dedicated to our community. Joe has served as President of the Rotary Club

of Austin, Assistant District Governor for Rotary International, on the original

Board of Hospice Austin, President of the Austin Mental Health Association,

Board Member of District Nine Grievance Committee of the State Bar of Texas,

and Legal Counsel, Secretary and Board Member for Christina's Smile for the past

27 years. He has been a volunteer for many local organizations, fundraisers, and

projects.

Caring Human Being, Tough Negotiator, Results Focused

There's a myth as one searches for a great family lawyer that in order to get results, you have to hire a bad *** - who will treat your former spouse (and probably you) like dirt, but it will be worth it because you will get results. Joe is proof that you can work with a fantastic, caring human bein...g and still get the tough negotiation skills needed to get the results you desire. As a former lawyer myself (JD, LLM), I can affirm that his knowledge of family law is thorough & detailed. If I had to do it all over again (hopefully never), I would select Joe every time. He made a troubled time bearable and saw that I got the things that were most important to me during my divorce & custody battle.

Family Law- Literally!

Joe was recommended to me by a Defense Attorney whom I trust and respect as "the one I would go to if it was my Divorce." Joe 'literally' does Family Law , as both his Son and Daughter followed him into his profession and are the second and third Attorneys in the Milner Law Firm. As Bob Bowman, a Me...diator, put it: "I couldn't think of a better recommendation than to have your own kids want to work for you!" Joe was attentive, concerned, and supportative, and more importantly, was perceptive as to the attack plan of the opposing Counsel and how to counteract it. He also was able to uncover deceptions and expose false statements made by my Ex during deposition. We ended up settling our case,and although we did not go to trial, I was able to walk away with the things that mattered most to me and he helped me engineer a plan to cut the chains that had been laid out to bind me financially to her for the next 6 years. If you are the "good guy" in a Divorce, you can't do better than Joe.
