We generally advise clients of the three main options for protecting assets from the high cost of a nursing home stay - long-term care insurance, asset transfers to adult children and setting up a protected "side fund" through an Irrevocable Medicaid Trust or an Asset Protection Annuity.

Your "estate" is, quite simply, everything you own. Real estate, personal property, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, retirement accounts, and even life insurance death benefits comprise your estate. The size and nature of your estate will often dictate what type of planning is right for you.

  4. Probate
    20%
Probate refers to the legal process by which a decedent's assets are distributed to heirs according to the terms of the Last Will, and Texas Statutes. According to Texas law, only assets titled in the decedent's name are probated. Assets titled in the name of a trust, jointly held assets, or accounts naming a beneficiary, are not probated. It is a common misconception that assets are probated only if they are part of a taxable estate.

  5. Trusts

A majority of our clients utilize a Revocable Living Trust ("Living Trust") as the cornerstone of their estate plans. Properly drafted, a Living Trust offers complete asset control to clients during their lifetime; provides for them and their loved ones in the event of their incapacity; and on death allows them to pass their assets to their loved ones without the costs, delays, and publicity associated with probate.

His motto: Proper Planning Adds Predictability.

Mr. Greening is committed to researching and preparing high quality, tax-sensitive estate plans. His mission in law is to help people accomplish their estate planning goals, and to take the mystery out of the estate planning process. Estate plan
Ron helped through a trying period while building my estate plan. There were many changes during that period including sale of properties, purchase of properties and the death of my Wife of 52 years. Through it all, Ron was patient and provided the best professional advice.

Very pleased with R Greening
Ron Greening was recommended to us four years ago by a friend who had used Ron’s services in the past. We had recently moved to Texas and therefore needed to revise legal documents for our estate. Ron was one of three attorneys we considered. We have been very pleased with the outcome of the decision to work with Ron. He is a pleasant person to interact with and his staff is pleasant and friendly. Ron is very thorough, presents options very clearly, answers questions in lay terms, is very patient, provides follow up to be certain that all bases have been covered and small details have been attended to. He provides very timely scheduling and performance. We have communicated by face to face meetings, email, phone and postal service - all with satisfaction. Ron appears to be very knowledgeable, especially about trusts. By happenstance, we have heard from a different third party that his firm is recommended by a large, national investment firm to assist clients like us when the clients put together trusts. Based on our experiences, we have and in the future would certainly recommend Ron to our friends and/or family.

Estate Planning/Trust/Will
Ron himself created my estate plan as well as a will for my wife and me. My family will be taken care of for generations, my assets will be protected from potential "bad spouses/gold diggers". Ron is a man of integrity with many years of experience, and yes, these services are not free. An attorney of his background and experience is what you should choose for this sort of endeavor, don't "squueze the buffalo" and go cheap. My Trust is rock solid, it was a wise and responsible investment for my family. One less concern for me as I grow older . . . .

Client of Greening Law Firm
We highly recommend this law firm. Ron and his staff did an excellent job in walking us through the process and preparing our trusts and wills. They've remained in contact to ensure that our insurance and investment beneficiaries have been correctly identified. We will use them again if trust or will revisions are needed and have recommended their services to friends.

Ron Has a Wealth of Experience
We met Ron when we first arrived in Georgetown 12 years ago at one of his Seminars. Because we came from out of state, we wanted a reputable estate lawyer to help us update our estate planning to cover Texas laws. We were impressed with his knowledge of estate planning and his willingness to explain the laws in a manner we could understand. We also found him courteous, honest, friendly and willing to answer any questions we had. Ron prepared our new wills and trusts and other important legal papers, such as our HIPPA form, Medical Power of Attorney and Directive to Physicians and Family. We were very pleased with his and his staff’s efficiency to complete the work in a timely manner. Ron continues to keep us informed of changes in the Texas law by his seminars and a yearly client breakfast. Updates or amendments to the family trust have been implemented quickly and efficiently. Ron’s staff is friendly, willing to answer questions and return calls as is Ron. We feel comfortable that our estate is in order and in good hands to protect, not only ourselves, but our family for the future.

Ron Greening is wonderful!
Last year, my father fell very ill very quickly, but did not have a will, or any kind of estate plan in place. As my sister and I scrambled to get his affairs in order, we called Mr. Greening to discuss putting together a family trust. Three days after our consultation, my father’s plan was signed. Mr. Greening and his staff stayed late and worked during the weekend to put his plan together, and they even came to the hospital to wrap everything up. A week later, my father passed away. Settling his estate would have been much, much more difficult if it hadn’t been for the hard work of Mr. Greening and the other attorneys at his firm. It’s definitely a service-oriented shop, and I’m grateful to them for their above-and-beyond effort.

NO FREE CONSULTATION - DON'T BE FOOLED!
I called to schedule a free consultation for a probate matter. Mr. Greening advertises FREE CONSULTATION on Avvo and on his own website. NOT TRUE! I made the appointment, and spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with his assistant explaining my needs so that Mr. Greening could be briefed prior to our consultation. Then several days later I got a call back from another person in Mr. Greening's office to inform me that the so called "free" consultation requires a $4,000 retainer fee up front. So, it's only "free" if you agree to retain Mr. Greening in advance of the very first meeting you have with him! Isn't that pretty much the opposite of a "free consultation"??? Losing a family member without a will is difficult enough, but being forced to deal with attorneys like Mr. Greening just adds to the misery. Hopefully I will be able to find another probate attorney who will sit down with me for 15 minutes free of charge and hear my story without asking me to shell out $4,000 just for the privilege of speaking with him/her. Hard to believe Mr. Greening has such high reviews from other people. Surely this same thing has happened over and over again to other people like me who foolishly believed the advertising that he offers a free consultation.
