Landlord kept my deposit

I hired Jennifer as my attorney without any references and I'm glad I did, that's the main reason why I'm writing this review so people that needs an attorney for the same reason I did at least have a review to go by, first of all from the very first phone call, Jennifer expianed to me what was the l...aw in Texas when it comes to landlords keeping security deposits and that alone helped me to make my decision in hiring an attorney or not, she did explain to me I had a case and from the moment I hired her to the very end of my case she was there either via email or phone call, What I think it was excepcional was that I really didn't want to have final confrontation with my landlord and she even helped me with that by making the processs really easy, I did get my deposit back, every penny of if, not even once I had to lose a day of work to go her office and sign paperwork, everything I signed, I did it from my phone without driving anywhere and that alone is priceless because in a situation like this, the last thing you want to do is miss work and money as well. Bottom line my experience was great and in a way I can even say it was painless to get my money back.

Gave one good piece of advice, then never followed up

I consulted with Jennifer when I was in danger of being evicted (this was pre-Covid-19). She is obviously a busy lady, I understand that, but did she have to be mobile through most of the consultation? I felt that I wasn't being given 100% of her attention. She did hammer home a point during the te...lephone call. She said it doesn't matter what is going on with me and my situation, if I am late or owe the landlord even one penny, they can evict me... so before I do anything, I needed to be current on rent. Thirty minutes went by super quick. Finishing up our conversation, she said she was going to do two things. The first was get back to me and the second was to speak with the insurance company that she would be billing for her time. She never called, emailed or used any other form of communication to get back in touch with me. Very disappointing and unprofessional. Upon talking to the insurance company, she never billed them for her time with me either. Not sure what happened or why, but I did end up getting the help that was needed.

I'm sorry that after we provided your free 30 minute legal consultation, you didn't fully understand our intake process. Understandably, lots of information is covered in a consult. Our firm is unique in that we provide about 3 consults per day which is about 100 per month - so yes we do stay extremely busy! Once I offer advice and the steps to try and resolve your issue on your own, we do expect that later you will contact us again if you decide to move forward with retaining our firm. We require that you sign a Letter of Representation agreement that outlines the scope of the legal services we will provide. Then we will be happy to contact your legal insurance to verify your coverage and get billing codes. I'm sorry that we didn't meet your expectations but glad you were able to get the help you so desperately needed!

BEWARE!

BEWARE. They claim a free initial consultation but use the whole time asking you about the case you've already told them about in your initial filing with them they should have read before the call, and then they tell you they don't know about this and they don't know about that and then send you an... email to say email them if you have any questions. And when you do have another question, they then want to charge you $300ish for an hour consultation or almost $150 for a half hour. My case is unusual and not a cut and dry issue and so I thought that's why I was told I could email them with any questions. But when I emailed Scarlett and told her that I had no problem paying to speak to her, but I certainly didn't want to pay if she was going to tell me she didn't know about anything, I got no response. Absolute crickets chirping So this seems more than a bit scammy. I would have definitely been upset had I paid for the initial consultation, as it was absolutely not worth $139 or whatever the charge and certainly not $300! I had to even ask things from my own research - so instead of them saying "you can file contempt motions", I had to ask can I file a motion for contempt to which she said "you can try". And the judge is hearing the motion I filed, but that is from MY research and MY work! I'm not even certain they would have even thought of it had I not brought it up! Just be a good person and do the right thing! I thought because of her personal story of having landlord issues herself, they wouldn't act like this. Don't offer an initial free consultation if it's not going to be an initial free consultation! Just say right up front you're charging. I understand people need to make a living, however I do a LOT of work for free just to be a good member of society. And I always try to help someone as much as I can. I even asked them if they wanted to help me sue this guy and his insurance company, where I'm sure they could make a lot more money in a settlement than just simple evictions, and of course I did say I would pay her, but I need to get something worthwhile out of it. I am so sick of professionals getting paid no matter what for incompetent or no work. Lawyers here, who seem to not want to work for justice, but just want to take easy cases where they can do minimal work and get paid exorbitant amounts, and doctors are notorious for it. Doctors can treat you terribly and misdiagnose you and they still get paid. I wish I could be wrong in my job all the time and still get paid. The whole thing is outrageous. ChatGPT is coming for your jobs and clearly it is deserved. It has been FAR more helpful (not perfect right now, you still have to manage it). Oh, and FREE. I prevailed in the writ, won the eviction and now the contempt charges. So I guess...karma? You guys should have been more ethical (which you swear an oath to do) and better members of civil society.

Unreliable

I contacted Mrs. MacGeorge because of her multiple field of law advertisement and because she is a woman. I had an issue involving Domestic violence and landlord tenant law. I worked with Safe Alliance and Hope Alliance for a couple of years, as a single mother with limited income, but because of Cov...id pandemic, they didn’t have enough resources at the time. I had to move out of state, because I didn’t have a place to live. I got at least an advice from their attorney, to get two Demand letters to be send ASAP and the approximate cost. I hired Jennifer MacGeorge, explained the situation. I was charged flat fee for those 2 letters. It was almost double than I expected, but I needed it. The office was communicating with me for the first month. Then I had to remind them, about my very limited time and those two letters. No answer. More than two months later I send her termination letter, it was too late for my case. I asked for my money back. They sent me a letter of excuses why I am not getting anything back. No letters done.
