Great Attorney!

I hired attorney Okoh-Brown to represent me in a child support case. Her rates were very reasonable. She was able to get my child support reduced almost 50% and while we were at court she stayed on top of what was going on at court and caught an error that would have caused us to be there all day. ...She also called me several times the night before to prepare me and to keep me updated on everything. During the mediation part of the case she kept her cool and even got me to see reason at times during the process and stay focused on what was best for my child. I saw my child this weekend for the first time in a few months. Attorney Okoh-Brown promised to fight for my rights in the future and work with me and was not focused on how much money I had. I found her to be professional, compassionate and knowledgeable. I will retain her services in the future and highly recommend her. Marcus G.

Great Attorney!!

We were amazed at Lisa's competence from the initial consultation. Every attorney my husband consulted in NY & Houston, while I was detained in Houston, TX detention center, stated that there were absolutely no possible way of me being release until my case was over, due to the fact that I was det...ained at the airport, trying to re-enter the US. Lisa was the only attorney who actually told my husband that there was an option… She filed a parole application with ICE (based on the hardship my minor child would experienced in my absence), the parole was granted & I was reunited with my family after exactly a month of being detained. Although we reside in NYC, we decided to continue working with Lisa. My hearing was scheduled in Houston, TX immigration court for the following year. Lisa explained the procedures ,laws, strategy, and advised us on the documentation & witness requirements in order to present a strongest possible case. Lisa scheduled telephone sessions with me and all of my witnesses to explain the process and prepared them for the court hearing. While Lisa's knowledge & experience in immigration law was obvious, she ,seemed to know very little about Ukraine (specifically, antisemitism in Ukraine, which was another approach to my case) and yet she took the time to research & learn about it, sharing all of her finding with me. In addition to filing for defense based on religious persecution, Lisa suggested filing a 212h waiver based on the hardship my daughter would experience should I be deported. Lisa WON my case! It has been one of the most difficult & nerve-wrecking years in the life of my family, full of uncertainty & fears, and with Lisa's help, this nightmare is over. I would highly recommend her for any immigration case, especially the difficult ones. Sincerely I.E.

Extremely helpful and courteous

Lisa helped me get a fiance visa for my fiance and a visa for her son, and then their green cards. I had no idea how to go about either, and she made the process VERY easy. She sent me all the proper forms with detailed instructions for me to fill out, and she and her group did the rest. And she a...nd her staff were very courteous and helpful with all my questions. We now successfully have their green cards with no hassle.

Also she is busy with another bussines (ambit energy). She was suposse to prepare us for the interwiew and she didnt right, she play a video of ambit energy, i was having alots of cuestions about the day but she just said everything is easy easy,,,we waste our time and of course our money. In the interwiew day she was 20 min. As I stated, I would post a follow up when her case is approved. It was approved yesterday. I know what I am doing and people just need to learn to be patient with uscis, we cannot force them to decide cases in the time we want them too. I did my job properly and an approved case was the result. I rest MY case!

DO NOT HIRE

This was when Lisa worked for Angela Brown's firm. Angela Brown was the one who did my consult and was excellent at her consultation. She offered a free consultation and made me feel like she would handle my case effectively. She was who I hired, or thought I hired, but Unfortunately, she was never ...the one on my case. The case ended up being handled by another attorney Lisa Okoh-Brown (who I believe no longer works at the firm). My case was a potentially very strong case yet nothing was done with it. Overall, I ended up paying about 15,000 dollars. There was only one hearing and one mediation which Lisa attended. After that, nothing else happened on the case. To save money, I even filed my own discovery and responded back to the opposing attorney's discovery. Even after doing my own discovery, they subtracted another $2,500 to review the discovery that I did only to make one or two corrections... I DID my own discovery and they charged $2,500. I brought this up with Angela Brown and she reviewed what happened. She stated that she would reimburse me the $2,500. That came with a catch... I had to put another $5,000 in as a retainer and then she would essentially add the $2,500. I told her I cannot afford to fill up the retainer fee again and asked if she would be able to just do more work on my case and subtract from the $2,500 she would reimburse me for. She said she could not do that. I asked if I could at least get back my$2,500 if she was going to withdraw. She stated that she could not do that... I spent 15,000 on this firm just for them to withdraw because I could no longer fill the retainer fee to keep them on my case. 15,000 that literally went to nothing. Lisa made me feel like she was on the opposing side. Whenever the attorney would call or email Lisa, not only would I be billed thousands for that, she would call me and tell me to stop what I was doing. She didn't bother to hear my side out and assumed the opposing attorney was telling the truth. I grant the opposing attorney the benefit of the doubt because he was probably being misinformed by his client. Lisa has no excuse. Lisa would speak in a condescending way every time she spoke with me. She was billing me so much because of her ineffective communication with the opposing attorney that I asked her to quit speaking with the opposing attorney unless we had mediation. The opposing party is a millionaire and part of their strategy was to just bill up and up until I couldn't afford representation. I made this known to Lisa and she informed me that she could not ethically cut off communication with the attorney. I told her not to cut off communication but just don't speak on the phone unnecessarily since we were clearly at a point of disagreement and nothing would be settled until mediation. She told me that she did not think she could represent me anymore. I brought this up with Angela Brown, her boss as the time, and Lisa ended up telling Angela that she never said such a thing. Luckily the phone calls were recorded and Angela apologized for what Lisa said. However, that apology did not come with any reimbursement. Lisa attended one hearing and one mediation. However, she made me drive an hour away for mediation only to make an excuse that she could not make it and ended up doing the mediation over zoom. I ended up having to represent myself for the remainder of the case.

I know exactly who this person is, of course they want to hide behind an anonymous post and the fact that they are posting this a year after this event occurred says a lot. this client wanted to control how much money was spent on the case. He did not care about the ethical duties of an attorney. If our name is on the case, then we must communicate when the other attorney communicates with us. This client wanted me to ignore the other attorney when they contacted us because the client didn't want to run up his bill. I could not do that. He wanted to dictate what he believe was necessary for me to talk to the other attorney about when they called. When they called I had a professional and ethical duty to talk to them but the client didn't want to hear that and I never denied that i said that, so that is another false statement. Furthermore, I am not the one to bill the client anything. Anything he is wrong about. The owner of the firm bills the client not I, so for him to talk about what i charged him, etc. is totally false. I did my job but this client wanted to control and try to tell the lawyer what to do, then why do you need a lawyer? As to the mediation I got ill and rather than stand the client up or reschedule and set the case back, I asked to appear by zoom. Yet another misrepresentation by the client. This client seems to have had more issues with billing and the firm, than the petty things he wrote about me so i don't know why he went out of his way to come and post on my profile. One day perhaps he will look into himself and figure out why he is always in the predicaments that he found himself in and stop trying to blame others for his life. Bottom line if you hire a lawyer, then let them do their job. If you cannot afford a lawyer then try to educate yourself and do it on your own but do not get upset when you hire a lawyer and the lawyer has duties that they must perform and unfortunately that you will have to pay for. I ended up leaving this case because this client was unreasonable and unrealistic and that is always a recipe for disaster and then you have to deal with him trying to bad mouth you on social media. So read these knowing you cannot please everyone but I work my butt off for my clients and that is why i win a lot of cases.
