Brandy Michelle Austin

In August of 2017, I contacted Brandy Austin, and I received a consultation from Heather Jamieson, the paralegal working for Brandy Austin. Based on the consultation, I hired this firm to represent my father because I had Power of Attorney over him, which granted me the authority to make decision...s, including legal ones, on his behalf. However, we never spoke to an attorney, not even for the consultation. A paralegal rendered legal advise to not to file an action to quiet title but instead probate an entire estate. The paralegal quoted a $3500.00 retainer and claimed that a hearing date would be scheduled by December 2017. Also, that only one hearing date would be necessary to resolve this issue . We paid the retainer and waited until December when the paralegal communicated that the date would be pushed back to Jan. 2018. In January 2018, a hearing date still was not scheduled. At this point, I became concerned. I monitored the Tarrant County Public records from that point on. The paralegal explained that the judge was retiring and caused a back up on cases. In February, this firm requested an additional $2000.00; the paralegal then claimed "we were in the mercy of the courts [sic]." In Feb., I noticed an amendment to the petition. By April, I noticed that the staff attorney for the court sent a notice to the firm that there was needed corrections. At that point, I called the court myself and talked to the clerk and they informed me that the petitions were not being filled out properly and needed corrections and the delay had nothing to do with politics or retirements. Shocked, I confronted the paralegal again because even after I sent an email to the owner and called the office to speak to our attorney I was continually directed to the paralegal. Eventually, I complained that I was not happy with the results, and the paralegal had the audacity to say that they were considering no longer representing my father. I caught this firm making false assertions, and after charging my father over $5k we walked away without any results. We felt we received legal advise merely so the firm could charge more and draw out a lengthy litigation.
