Kelly Margaret Heitkamp

We utilize several different law firms in an array of capacities, mostly work related, and have for over 20 years. We are simply in shock at how unprofessional we feel Kelly conducted her practice and service in this case. Kelly was hired based on the reviews on this site as well as another so we... feel it important to make the public aware of our experience. The initial meeting went well in that we felt she would provide a good service and work on our behalf FOR US, once we paid the retainer, it all changed. We have approximately 20 emails with questions which I would never get a response to or her secretary would respond saying she would check and get back to me, which I had to pull teeth to finally get an answer, if I ever actually received an answer. It was difficult to meet Kelly due to her "schedule" and in the 3 times (hired her over a year and a half ago) she met me in person she still did not answer all my questions. I had a sensitive issue due to a business and hence needed to ask very specific questions along with my business partner to be able to understand our position surrounding the issues and Kelly refused to conference call my partner in because "she doesn't conference call." I then set an appointment to meet in person and my partner flew to Dallas, drove all the way here to Longview, literally, to come in and discuss our sensitive situation at which Kelly refused to discuss and became so confrontational that my partner was there that within two minutes we fired her. When I pay someone for a service, I expect to have an experience in which I feel they are actually working in my best interests, to work with the professional I paid to work with (not their secretary), and if I want a conference call, I can have a conference call. I just better not see Kelly's hourly rate charged for the time her secretary spent telling me, "I'll get back to you," and then never did..... I hope something positive comes out of this and Kelly actually starts working FOR her clients, which is not how we felt walking away from her service.

Kelly was my lawyer for two years but now I live in Beaumont and can't find anyone who will work like she did. I had consults with three lawyers and none of them can stay awake or follow what I'm saying. Kelly sent me emails all of the time at 2 and 4 in the morning. She was always working. I'd b...e at work and get an email from her in the middle of the night and she and I would message back and forth. She knew I was up worried so she was up worried about me. You can't put a price on that. Now I'm down here fighting the same battle with that same woman but I can't get a lawyer that I trust. I heard Kelly is working in Colorado now but she still takes cases in east Texas. Finding a good lawyer is harder than I thought. I was spoiled.

Ms Kelly has been my lawyer for the past two years. Mine is a case that won't be over for years I guess. I read here about people complaining about cost but she charges the same as my first attorney but I actually talk to her and I can tell you what shes done for me. I dont understand a lot about ...how all of this works. I read the papers and wing it. The X wants to have a hearing every week. All of this is crazy but all I can do to help my son is fight it. Kelly is steady and true. People said she was a fighter and that is true but I find she is just honest and works hard... like good people do.

It is clear she has experience in handling divorce and child custody cases. I hired her because my neighbor, an attorney, suggested her. She got back to me or had her staff give me a call. She made me feel comfortable, or at least protected, in a very uncomfortable situation. Unfortunately it loo...ks like we will be back in court either next year or so. I would hire her again. Her address is no longer on Methvin. She moved to Magrill in Longview.

Going through a divorce has been the ultimate worst experience of my life. You should have to watch a divorce on video before you can get a marriage license. I'd say that'd cut it down by 90%. I hired my attorney after seeing her in court in Marshall. She is TOUGH. She let me know what to expect a...nd her secretaries were really great about keeping me involved. I don't like anything about the process and it has left a very bad taste in my mouth but I can get on with my life now and I really believe having a honest aggressive attorney makes it easier because I know I didn't get taken advantage of. Mediation was really a surprise to me because I thought all cases went to court and were heard by a judge. My daughter was given her own attorney and that really worked out and she didn't have to be in the court. I recommend my attorney because she cared about my child and kept me involved but also because I got what I needed to get on with my life. Still waiting on a prince but one more frog back on the street.
