Marvin Karl Hawkins Jr.

We used M. Karl Hawkins to make our wills, trust, and powers of attorney this summer. He listened to what we needed, was very helpful and answered all our questions. During our first meeting, he made us both feel as comfortable as possible talking about things that needed to be decided, but were not ...easy to discuss or decide. He was helpful in coming up with a great compromise for dividing our assets despite my spouse not having any living relatives and us not having children of our own. He also did not blink an eye when we wanted to make sure someone was able to take care of our pets if something happened to us. We met with him again briefly to draft a beneficiary deed after buying a different house and we still felt very comfortable with him. Thank you!

Karl has done only a small amount of legal work for me, but my history with him as a businessman goes back many years. He is honest and reliable. He will tell you the straight story, and I trust him implicitly. The legal work he has done for me was done quickly and competently. If he can't handle you...r legal issue, he'll get you to someone who can.

Mr. Hawkins is disorganized and very difficult to communicate with. Setting up an estate was challenging, and once set up he never returned phone calls, emails, or messages (for weeks) to assist in funding the estate. Our frustration began at the initial intake where he did not listen to the client ...(who requested a living will rather than a living trust) and actually pushed a trust rather than living will. He graciously accepted this mistake in follow-up and made written and verbal commitments to follow through on the trust. However, once the trust documents were signed we received no return phone calls, emails, or messages to assist with funding the trust. Once we did reach him via phone he made excuses for lack of communication, but did not answer questions, provide assistance, or set up a later time to handle these clients' needs. It appears we are now being punished for his initial mistake. Or, he is unprofessional and negligent in all cases? For these reasons, we would suggest to avoid Mr. Hawkins for estate planning (and possibly all legal issues) at all cost.
