Serious ethical concerns, was dismissive, poor communication

I hired Mr. O'Brien to handle a criminal matter and family issues for me. He was effective in handling the criminal matter, but was very difficult to talk to and to get on the phone. He rarely returned calls, when he did it was sometimes 3-4 weeks after I had tried to reach him and only then when I t...hreatened to dismiss him from the case. He always had an excuse for not getting back to me. His cavalier attitude toward my case left me having to deal with a contempt charge from not receiving information that he possessed but had failed to pass along to me from opposing counsel. When I ended up dismissing Mr. O'Brien, he sent a bill full of charges for court dates that he did not attend and services he did not perform instead of refunding me a large amount of my retainer. He also did not return the bulk of supporting documentation I had provided to him, much of which was original and impossible to replace. In the months he was to be handling the family issues for me, he did not file any responses to the opposing counsel's motions. I ended up having to file responses myself with very little notice after I discovered he had not addressed them, though I had been charged for this time. I would never recommend Mr. O'Brien's services to anyone. I found his actions contemptuous and his behavior unethical and abusive.
