The Impact of a Contentious Lawyer in Divorce Proceedings

I would not recommend Gordon Nelson as a divorce lawyer. I saw how his approach often escalated tension rather than helping to resolve the issues at hand. He seemed to encourage a more contentious path, at times even using sarcasm and manipulative tactics. There was a lack of balance in his approach,... and I felt that his actions inadvertently contributed to the alienation of a parent, which is especially concerning for the well-being of children involved in divorce proceedings. If you're seeking a lawyer who will help navigate the complexities of a divorce in a fair and ethical manner, I would suggest looking elsewhere. It's important to have someone who understands the emotional and legal nuances of divorce, particularly when children are involved, and I did not see Mr. Nelson meet those expectations.

Excellent Divorce Attorney

Gordon has helped me through my divorce and custody agreement. He is very insightful that he not only protects what is needed for now but also for the future. He made the entire process easy and smooth for me and I couldn't have asked for a better lawyer. He is clear, smart and confident . He was ver...y speedy and efficient and did not waste any time to file the orders and get it signed by the judges.

A lawyer that will go to battle for you.

Gordon was my attorney through an arduous 3 year divorce and post decree battle with my ex-husband. From day one, he guided me through emotional and difficult problems my case brought and effortlessly navigated the exceedingly complicated geography of Cook County Family Court with great ease. He has ...a keen awareness of the various judges and the changing laws, which gave him a major advantage over the other attorney in my case. Gordon is fair, honest, and prompt and although being very straightforward, has a way about him that comforts his clients during an exceedingly difficult time.

Results

Gordon helped me with my divorce seven years ago; and he helped me again when we had to take my ex-husband back to court, after he failed to refinance our home per the divorce judgement. It took about a year and a half to finalize, but he got me the results I was looking for.

Senior Account Manager- Medical Device

“My ex-husband did everything in his power to drag out our divorce—trying every maneuver legally possible to try and get income from me etc. Gordon is exceptional in his knowledge of the law and owned my case. Moreover, Gordon has great relationships with judges and his attorney colleagues—this is ke...y for tackling cases ensuring an optimal outcome. So many lawyers are not invested in truly helping their clients during one of the most trying time of their lives—divorce. Gordon is compassionate, truly cared about me as a person, and was vested in expediting the divorce process, instead of ‘dragging out the process to pad his pockets—like so many other lawyers do’. Gordon’s fees were reasonable and fair. Gordon was on top of the case, not missing any of the details, was highly prepared, highly skilled in the law. His strategy was spot on an he did legal maneuvers that helped me in my case. Gordon would also take adequate time to answer my questions and he was exceptional at explaining the law to me. Gordon would listen to my ideas on how to handle the case—and we would modify the strategy accordingly. My divorce was incredibly painful emotionally and Gordon truly had compassion for me and got me through arguably the most difficult time of my life. I felt that he really cared about me as a human, hated seeing me suffer, and did everything he could legally to move the case along, and get the case finalized. Gordon also informed me about various ‘lawyer’ tactics that the other side ‘could’ do—He was always spot on with anticipating the other sides strategy—and maneuvers. The legal tactics that get pulled in divorce situations at times can seem unfair—albeit completely legal—Gordon prepared me, was honest, trustworthy, and being informed of what could happen in court prepared me for the worst case scenario (that is within the scope of the law). I truly believe that because Gordon was on my case, my case ended sooner than it would have. So many lawyers don’t know their clients/their cases, looking at the file the day of court, flying by the seat of their pants. Gordon was highly prepared, on-top of my case, and had options the day of court based on various scenarios that could play out. Motions were ready, executed immediately etc. Gordon gave me my life back and I will forever be grateful for the exceptional human and lawyer that Gordon is. On a side note, I was attacked and mugged by five men when my divorce was going on. Gordon reached out and asked me how I was doing and sent flowers with a kind note. He truly cares. I would recommend Gordon to anyone who is in need of an exceptional lawyer who is affordable” -MaryBeth
